I work for Coby technical support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-727-3592.

When you connect the unit to the USB port on your computer, it will automatically begin charging. There are also universal wall chargers that can be purchased from Radio Shack.
If you feel this solution doesn't deserve a good rating, please let me know why so that I may better assist you. If there is anything more I can do to help, I will!

How long should I charge it for?

The instruction manual says that the recommended first-time charge is 12 hours. It does not go on to say how long subsequent charges should be.

You can read the manual here:

http://www.cobyusa.com/files/manuals/MPC582_MN.pdf

The charging instructions are on page 13 of the manual.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

How come my mp3 player doesn't charge? i hook it up and all i see is a dead battery!! please help me!

Use a cellular phone charger !

I have a motorolla, and it's the same plug. Just make sure the player says "charge". You may have to play with the on/off switch for that.

It wont turn on.

make sure that you charge it for twelve hours consistantly....once it is charge after you can hold down on the power button and the light comes on- use a paper clip and reset the player it should now work....

I had to work with mine for three days to get this working- biggest thing is the charge solid red light and the reset button (also making sure you have music already on it of course-)

hope this helps!

Coby MP-C582 MP3 Player

Reset the device and charge again. You will lose the data but the drive should work. If that doesn't work it may be the battery.

Thanks,

i think that you need to let it charge ,& then try to play it ,or try to shuffle the music after you install it

Player is not turning on

Sometimes I must hold the play button down for over 7 seconds on my unit to get it to turn on. See also the answer to the question on properly charging the unit; i.e, have the slide switch in the "off" position.
If you are using a USB hub to charge the mp3 player then the hub must be powered.

How do you charge the COBY MP C582?

Hello msvivi,

There are several reasons why this could happen. Let's start with the premise that your mp3 is operational (not defective internally in any way). Here are some reasons:

a) Your mp3 player charges while connected to the USB port, but, there is a catch. It has to be self powered; in other words, it has to be the USB port directly attached to the computer not through a hub.

b) As stated in the manual, it may take in some cases a few minutes for your computer to recognize the hardware connected through the USB port, so, plug it in and be patient.

c) If your computer runs windows 98, you need to download and install a driver that will allow your system to recognize the mp3. If that is the OS in your computer, click on this link to take you to Coby's support site and download the driver.

Hope this helps. Let me know.
