Thoroughly check your antenna connection, be certain the plastic grommet is in place (and not cracked) between the bottom of the antenna adaptor stud and your antenna mount, and check for corrosion in and around your antenna connections. If using a fiberglass antenna, check for cracked outer insulation. If a whip, be sure the Allen screws are tight and the antenna is getting a good connection. If you have a base-loaded whip antenna (Wilson 2000) make sure the base coil plastic case isn't cracked. If you find anything wrong, invest in a new antenna. If all that checks out, buy a new 18 foot piece of coax (around $20, or get the best quality you can afford) and run it to the antenna. You may have skinned the coaxial shielded outer insulation somewhere in the uninstall/install process, it only takes one tiny break to cause problems. Be sure not to run the coax through the door jamb or a window where it WILL be pinched and cause trouble, take time to run it under the dash and out a permanent vent access or through the firewall.
Red light antenna light... get the swrs set on the antenna, and make sure its not internally damaged. as the other guy said, check the mic wiring... but, the tx/rx should switch colors when you key up. ABSOLUTELY, GET THE ANTENNA CHECKED... (and cable) bad swrs are your radios worst enemy, next to refreshing beverages and impacts from tossing it out the window. Only takes a few minutes, in some case seconds to start burning down the finals, as well as some other important junk in there... also, if the antenna isnt working, and or set, (could be a bad cable with torn wires inside you cant see...) the red antenna light comes on...and likely, you wont get any sound cause you get no signal... try that
I had the same exact problem. the culprit was a broken ground solder on the case of the inside of the radio
Check speaker...may have been damaged in removal/installation.
You're on the right track, it sounds like an antenna problem to me.
Comprobar que la antena no este en cortocircuito o falsee la conexion, si cambiaste el microfono checar la polaridad exacta.
Check your microphone connection. There may be a short in your mic plug. Some radios require a microphone to be connected in order to receive. If you recently changed microphones, be certain it is wired for your particular radio. Hope this helps. Also, do not use radio if this condition still exists as damage will occur.
Check your SWR on the antenna.
