Hello,

Yes it can. Just remember that if the power cord comes off, then it will shut off immediately.

SOURCE: Dell e1705 will not charge battery any longer

The problem with your laptop unfourtunately is not anything you can simply waive your wallet at, There area on the laptop where you plug in the power Adapter has a very small connector on the inside, this connector because of the nature of the cable and being pulled around and adjusted constantly causes the solder that hold the DC connection in place becomes damaged, sometimes if held in the right position it will charge, but this will only work for so long as the connector becomes more damaged by doing so. Your options are to A.) take the laptop to someone who can solder it back on (literally takes 25-30 minutes) but finding people who are willing to do it is not so easy, i recommend smaller computer shops with Uber nerds (look for the dude with the calculator watch) Option B.) this actually is something that dell covers under warranty as its not damage done by you directly, the damage is done with general use. I would at least try to contact them to see where you are with your warranty. C.) Call Dell's Spare Parts department in the event that your laptop is not in warranty and purchase a motherboard replacement ( seems extreme but its the only way to replace that proprietary connector without soldering it back on ). There is one more problem that could cause this, and that is that the motherboard in your computer has actually started to fail and is not getting the power to the battery, in which case you Have to contact dell, or find someone who will replace the motherboard for you most likely at an hourly rate. if this is the case Go hunting for Dell E1705's with broken LCD's for sale, you will save your self a ton of money, and swapping the motherboards out is really not that difficult, any computer repair place should have the ability.

This solution addresses all the known problems I've seen and should get you on the right path.

Good luck! Stay Classy :)

SOURCE: dell inspiron 8000 without operating system

First, if you are still running Vista on your desktop then you will need to buy a license for the laptop. Does the laptop have a WinXP on it now? If so, go here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx and run the Vista Upgrade Advisor. If not, determine the hardware specifications of your laptop and go here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/system-requirements.aspx Compare your laptops specs to those listed for the version of Vista you wish to install.

Dell inspiron e1705 did factory restore then screen went black now what do i do?

Since you did factory install, Might probably that's the recovery partition you used, Try to restart computer, if does not work, turn it off, unplug ac adapter and battery then drain residual power of laptop by pressing the power button for 5 secs, then put the ac adapter and battery again. If it still doesn't work, try to run diagnostics first if it fails then you'll need to replace a part, if it passes then you'll need to do operating system re-installation manually.

Dell Inspiron E1705 battery light flashes 4 amber lights, then 1 green. The battery seems to charge.

The ambar lights are warning you the battery is becoming to dead, it means in a short time, if it has not happens now, the battery won't retain the charge anymore, it is time thinking in a replacement if you use your laptop without plug in the power outlet.

Express slot is bad

I would be trying another card before checking the laptop.

If the port itself was shorting out then it would be shorting out with or without the card in place.

Problems with Dell Inspiron 6000 Battery ? DELL Inspiron 6000 laptop battery is popular, why ?

You can also pick up the batteries less expensive than most computer places at batteries plus. And yes it sounds as though it is the batteries charge is getting low, especially if it runs fine when the battery is out and you have it plugged in.
