There are at least two roller wheels that support the dryer drum that will probably need to be replaced. Never replace just one...always replace them together. Have fun!

I'd say take the 50% off offer. Dryer drums are very thin, and a weld would most likely still make a thump noise every time it passed the drum supports. (two thumps per revolution) I've seen this on other brands which use thin stainless steel drums. (I didn't look up your model to see if the drum was SS or powder coated metal, or galvanized, or whatever) It is not a real common thing, but certainly not unheard of. I'd say it was indeed a poor weld, but the manufacturer's generally won't help much once it makes it past the warranty period. Don't bother rating this, as anything but a FixYa lowers my rating. Thanks.

If your clothes get marked or torn in your dryer, check these: Rollers Rear seal Front glides Front seal Rollers Your dryer may use rollers, or wheels, to support the rear of the clothes drum. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rollers wear out, you need to replace the whole set. Rear seal Your dryer may have a felt-like seal at the rear of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, clothes can get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rear seal wears out, you need to replace it. Front glides Your dryer probably uses nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the glides wear out, you need to replace them as a set. Front seal Many dryers have a felt-like seal at the front of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, the clothes in the dryer may get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the seal wears out, you need to replace it.

I recently replaced the rear drum bearing on this dryer, and once you
find the part, the change is a snap. The dryer actually uses Whirlpool
parts, and the rear bearing is just a plastic bushing that the shaft of
the drum rides in. It is accessible behind a small cover on the rear of
the machine. Pop the top off the machine (so you will be able to support
the drum, to remove the old bushing), remove the five Robertson screws
holding the rear cover and bushing in place, remove c-clip at end of
shaft, remove old bushing. After applying some high quality lube (I
used a molybdenum based product), reverse assemble, and enjoy the now
quiet machine.
The part # is 35001012, made by Whirlpool (Maytag/Samsung), FSP on the bag.

your clothes are getting caught between the drum and the rim due to bearings out of the wheel guides. These guides are what the drum rests on when it is turning. Most dryers you can access these guides by taking the front off the dryer. Not a big expense just a little difficult to get to .
