Which remote can replace my old broken remote of the philips A5.600

My remote broke so now i cant use many functions anymore like using diffrent inputs in my speaker system. I called philips but they dont make it anymore and cant advice what universal remote to use since they dont have a database to see which one would be compatible and would work most of the functions of the old remote... :S Anyone an idea which remote i could use??

    hi again,

the remote is all nice and clean inside. there is a small led like thing at the end of the remote, but it doesnt do anything, but then also my remote of the tv also philips has the same kind of led at the end and that doesnt blink or anything when used.

its a very simple circuit board and just looking at it it seems to be in fine condition, i dont have a volt meter at my place so ill ask around if i can use one somewhere and or go to an electronic shop to use one there and see if they have this little box where i can point it to and see if it records something.. but i dont think it will since the music system has a red led inside which always used to blink when the remote was used...

Most remotes that do not work can be fixed--I would go that route first.

To help you I need to know if only some buttons do not work or all etc.

The remote if some work can be tested: most shops have a card that the remote is pointed at--buttons pressed and the tester beeps or flashes a light---this can also be done with some digital cameras where the screen will flash when remote pointed at it when on to see if only certain or all buttons on the remote are working.

The remote sends a infrared signal and this can be seen.

If only a few (usually adjacent buttons) do not work something got spilled onto remote and got inside---this can also be easy.

Let me know as much as you can. (see make a comment button on this page)

ok, this will be a bit long but bear with me:

If the unit has some kind of light that blinks etc when used look to see if it does or not.

    1. Look carefully first at battery connections--any rust/white junk and clean it spotless with a knife or small file.

    2. Look to see all battery connections are tight=battery should move but not too loose.

You want to know if voltage there--the batteries are in series like the old xmas lights---with a voltmeter you can check from one end of them to the other--say two batteries you should have 3 volts and each additional one adds 1.5 volts.

Spills happen and are rarely noticed--if the remote gets checked (did you try to use a digital camera?) and is transmitting or not you will be able to check every button--start with power first!

If power, and some or no buttons function you are going to have to take the remote apart.

Nothing to lose if you are careful here, most remotes may have a screw in battery compartment or elsewhere on back or may not have any.

With batteries out look for a seam in side middle that runs all around the remote--these are also usually snapped together--careful prying around will allow you to gradually free the two halfs of the remote.

Once open you have (other than battery space) 3 parts: bottom, a circuit board, and the rubber like pad with all the buttons.

That keyboard mat should slide right off--if it does not when you pull it off it will be sticky on the bottom and have residue on the board it connects to and on its back where tiny round rubber like contacts touch matching ones on the board.

If you find residue--clean surface of board with alcohol just so not sticky etc.

The rubber like mat is usually one large piece with the buttons on one side--if residue there on the back of it DO NOT CLEAN WITH ALCOHOL---OR any chemicals.

Take it to the kitchen sink and with mildly warm water and dish soap clean both sides completely---rinse with water and look you got all the spill removed---you can use a hair dryer but not on HOT.

Once all three parts (front, pad, rear) are clean and dry put the remote back together and with good batteries see if it works.

Check the voltage and connectors first and then with it all back look to see if works.

When you have it apart examine the end of the circuit board as there will be one or two clear or light color leds that send the signal--look where they are soldered in to make sure not broken loose from the side of board where soldered in.

This is my version of basic abc remote repair.

    Either no voltage reaching remote.
    Spill in remote
or broken connections on the circuit board fixes 95 percent of them.

If the remote was stored with the batteries left in it for a long time---battery connections are not clean etc.

I can not find the source of our philips tv

I would have the remote looked at----usually they can be fixed for much less than a new remote and have all the features needed.

Universals are usually a waste of time and money

To directly address your problem==unless the set has a input or source button on its front or side you need to get that remote working or replaced with an original one.

I have an old Philips 72cm color tv (+-20 years old) still working perfect!! My problem is, the remote isn't working anymore? The remote uses a 9 volt battery. The Tv is a type 28 CL 9430/732 50hz...

Hi Eddie, I know the type of remote you are after, I have been in this trade more than 30 years & know the type of TV. It is a problem trying to get universal remotes to work older equipment. My only suggestion is to try Philips direct on this website www.urc.philips.com. go to the Philips global option & follow the links to contact & support & try to either phone or e-mail them to enquire if there is a universal Philips type
remote that will work. Meanwhile if I can come across any other contacts, I will let you know.,

I usually play video games on the rca 14 inch true flat tv but my remote broke that they gave me so i cant go to input to play video games. Do i need a new remote for that or can you do it a diffrent way...

Unless the set has front panel menu buttons and the on-screen menu allows you to select the source, the answer is "no, you can't switch without the remote". If the original remote is really broken, you may be able to use an RCA-brand universal replacement that has an "input" or "source" button. Unless the original is physically damaged, before you toss it check the battery contacts inside. They sometimes get loose from handling the remote a lot and don't make good connections. Also make sure the new batteries are fresh and facing the right way.

880 universal remote volume button broke. little rubber botton on inside that pushes the volume button on inside broken.face plate cracked and arrow button on left right underneath face broken and missing...

My volume button also broke (actually, the VOLUME UP function stopped working). Rather than trying to get the remote fixed, I found a different solution...
I reprogrammed the + key (bottom left of the remote) to be my new Volume UP function. You can do this by going to any of the activities you've already defined, and adding a custom button to the activity.
Choose the + button (it will probably not have an existing function), and tell it to use the Volume Up function of the component you normally use for volume. In my case, it was the Home Theater Receiver.
I hope that helps.

TV does not poweron

Most universal remotes are not compatible for your set. I would suggest to order the original from Philips.

Universal remotes are only good for simple functions. Many of them cannot get in to the menus, and reliably work all the functions of the sets. This has to do with the complexity of all the many thousands of protocol codes that the universal manufacture has to impliment in to his low cost product!
