I bought this http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Adapter-Converter-Optical-External/dp/B001OORMVQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1334513232&sr=8-2 but I don't think is the correct one since none of the connections fit the harddrive's connection.

SOURCE: Removal of boot.com virus from external hard drive and USB Stick

Silakan baca di >sini<
Desi Vibes

"boot.com" is a virus which attacks the hard drives & the hard drives could not be opened by double clicking. In hard drives after enabling viewing hidden file u can see some "autorun" file & a file named "boot.com" which cannot be removed just by deleting.

Here’s the REAL way to clean this off your system. You should do these steps after a fresh reboot in safe mode.
1) Navigate to the problem drive(s) via the Explore option.
2) Click on TOOLS -> FOLDER OPTIONS
3) Click the button which says ‘Show hidden files and folders.
4) UNCHECK the following boxes:
Hide extensions for known file types
Hide protected operrating system files
5) Find and delete the autorun.ini file and the resycled folder on the root directory of all affected drives.
6) Check “c:\windows\system32\dllcache” for boot.com file and delete it if present.
7) Check “c:\windows\prefetch” for boot.com file and delete if present.
8) Delete all files from c:\windows\temp
(Some files may not delete, that’s ok, they’re in use by the system and not virus files.)
9) Delete all files from c:\Documents and Settings\[USER PROFILE]\Local Settings\Temp
(Again, a couple files may not delete, don’t worry.)
10) Run Regedit
11) Make sure you are at the very first entry of the registry hive. (My Computer should be hilighted) then click EDIT -> FIND
12) Search for “boot.com”. If it finds an entry, delete it. Keep hitting F3 until you’ve deleted all instances of boot.com in the entire registry.
13) Scroll the left column back up to the top and hilight the My Computer again at the top of the registry hive.
14) Click Edit -> Find again and search for ‘resycled’ and repeat as in step 13, deleting the entries as it finds them.
15) Close registry editor and try opening the infected drives. They should work now.
Worked for me at least.

SOURCE: External Hard Drive I/O Error

Somehow i tried to format and it was formatted. took pretty long time as 1 terabyte. i thought all is ok as the drive was accessible. Just to double check, i scanned the drive thorugh the seagate manager and it got stuck on 10% for few seconds and then said that the hard disk is faulty and should be immediately returned if under warranty. and to confirm it also gave me read errors http://www.dtidata.com/resourcecenter/2007/05/15/how-to-tell-hard-drive-physical-damage/

so i'm giving it to seagate service centre as it probably has physical faults, bad sectors. and someone told me that 1TB hard drives are not stable.

SOURCE: Fantom Drive TFDU16072A Error

2009 06 30 - I just had a similar problem. The Fantom external drive was working fine, but I had to shut down due to a thunderstorm. When I restarted the PC, the drive was not showing up. WHAT I FOUND: First, I didn't find this solution anywhere - everything seemed to point to a new install (or at least how to reformat and start over.) BUT, I right clicked on Computer, Manage, Disk Management - it still didn't show. On the right, under More Actions, I clicked 'rescan disks'. Now it shows up! And all of my data is right there. Whew!

SOURCE: I can't access data off my portable hard drive (model HD-337-U2C)

Hello

Okay , so there are some steps to figure out what is wrong with your external.

Firstly , if your computer makes a sound when you plug in your external , go to Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Management , and see if your external drive is listed here with your local drives. If it is listed , right click on the drive and change the drive letter to make it appear in "my computer".

If your drive does not make a connection sound when connecting to your computer and also does not show up , please follow the next step.

Remove the hard drive from the casing if possible and install it in your computer case or another external case.If the drive works , the problem is with the casing and you can ignore the drive.

Now , if the problem is with the casing , there are still 3 possibilities.

  1. The USB cable between the drive and the computer may be damaged.
  2. The circuit board which connects your drive to the interface of the external may be blown.
  3. The power supply (if applicable) may have a blown transformer.
The latter is the easiest to diagnose , does your external light up at all when you plug in the power? If not , then this is probably your problem. On the bottom of the adapter is a label which you will be able to use to have a new adapter made at your local electronics shop and this will cost about $30 max. They will also be able to test the adapter with a clamp meter to see if this is really the problem and this should be free.

The second component you want to test is the USB cable. If you have a printer , swop out the cables and see if your printer functions normally. Most externals use the same connector so you should be able to test it in this manner. If the cable works go on to the last step. If the cable is defective , replace it with a new one which you can find for about $10 at most electronics and chain stores.

The last component to test is the circuit board. This is a bit of a grey zone as you probably won't be able to spot the blown component unless it failed really badly. With the casing already opened , locate the external's circuit board and check to see if you have any blackened components or fluids leaking from some components. If all the other components of the external worked perfectly , then this is the faulty part. It is not really economical to replace the circuit as most of the time it is out of production by the time you need to replace it and it still costs a lot even if it is available so if your drive is working perfectly when connected via sata or IDE on your computer , the best is to buy a new casing and place your old drive in the new casing.

A casing costs about $50 and you could get it at most tech shops and big chain stores like Best Buy.

I hope this solves your problem and please reply if you need more help.

Kind Regards
Andrea

My hardrive "simpledrive" model 96300-41001-156

The external storage device has several major components:

* USB cable

* external power-supply

* disk-drive inside the enclosure

* USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

Try a different USB cable.
Try a different USB port on your computer.
Try a USB port on a different computer.

Take a multi-meter, and measure the output voltage/amperage of the power-supply,
and compare with the specifications on the label of the power-supply.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and attach it as a "slave" drive in a desktop computer, to see if bypassing the USB-to-disk-drive adapter bypasses the problem.

Look at the label on the disk-drive, for manufacturer, product-number, serial-number, and manufacture date. Access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status" to see if the warranty still is valid. If so, the drive can be replaced, at minimal cost to you.

Buy a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Search online for a professional "data recovery service". For a significant fee, they can repair your disk-drive, just long-enough to copy your files to a new disk-drive.

I have to activate bluetooth in my fujitsu note book how can i acctivate.........

Hi,
The Fujitsu AMLO Pro, by default doesnot have a blue tooth adapter . If you have ordered the blue-tooth card in the laptop when you ordered then you can switch it on using the wireless key button on the laptop. However if you have not ordered a blue tooth card with the laptop. You can purchase an external USB blue-tooth adapter.
The user manual for you laptop is on the link below for reference

Can I upgrade my network adapter card to 802.11N compatible on my Fujitsu Lifebook P1610

Yes you can, but the easier and cheaper solution is to buy a Wireless USB 802.11N compatible adapter.

If you want to go expensive and more technical, you can buy the adapter from e-bay and replace the one on the computer.

No wifi

The Fujitsu Lifebook S5582 does not have an integrated Wireless network card. This laptop was manufactured in 2001-2002. The integrated Wifi card was not generaly common in laptop computers until 2004.

So, you will need to buy a wireless adapter if you want to have wifi connectivity. Since this laptop is quite old, I would recommend a PCMCIA (a.k.a. PC card) adapter instead of a USB because it will be much lighter on the processor load.

You also have to be aware that using a wireless card will use more battery power and therefore shorten the expected autonomy of the laptop when running on battery.
