Your approach is correct however it doesn't look like the MF4270 provides for these settings. One might expect to be able to select G3 or ECM or set a lower TX speed.
I located the settings for different Canon Fax machines here: VoIP Fax Settings
Doubt if you need to set up the fax with ECM ( error correction mode )...a lot of fax's come with ECM these days set to ON. Don't know why because in the majority of cases the phone lines are of good enough quality that its not necessary. However, that said; I would suggest you pick up your handset and listen to the dial tone on the phone/fax line and listen to see if you are hearing static noises...if you do then its likely you have a bad line and should report it to your phone provider.
If the line is good, then I would ask you to try and make a phone call off your fax machine(assuming it has a handset) and again listen to the sounds off the line. I would then get someone locally with a fax machine to send you a test page to see if the machine works from a different number/location.
this is just the transition speed and line condition and you dont have to worry about it , the machine will give you an error code if the faxes dont go through alturnativly contact the reciever of the fax to check that they have recieved it
ECM (Error Correction Mode) is a feature common in most fax machines today. It helps to minimize errors while transmitting faxes over noisy phone lines.
1) Be sure you have the latest version of the drivers installed
2) Turn the fax off, then unplug for 10 minutes, turn on and try again. This should clear up anything in the printer/fax memory
3) Check if your phone line is unsually noisy when you tried to send the fax(es) that gave you the error message. If this is the case, a sucessful fax transmission will be almost impossible. You may have a faulty phone line or an improper installation. Either of these two should be fixed by your phone company. Also, most phoen companies can test your phone line (for fre) remotely to check for abnormally high noise levels.
Please, report back if you need further assistance.
ECM mode stands for "Error Correction Mode". This feature aids in compensating for bad line conditions. However, when dialing international calls, you cannot assess the condition ot the various telephone service companies your call might be going through. If you can transmit without problem locally, then there is no problem in your machine. You should then call your telephone company and get them to check you line connection under the argument that long-distance or international calls cannot be completed.
I try sending a fax then the paper goes through it makes a loud beep and the message says theres been an error try again this happens all the time no matter who I fax. then it prints out error confirmation stating Mode G3 send error
The header needs to be changed in the User soft switches under "User Settings" - Unit name and Date and Time. Settings differ slightly depending on the model. Please stipulate the model name for explicit instructions.
Hi there I can only find in the service manual 6-09 and 9-09 I will attach the reasons for both if they are of any help great if not there are no tech bulletins for this machine that says otherwise.
Thanks J
9-09 Paper jam in the fusing exit area If the problem persists, replace the FCU.
6-09 G3 ECM - ERR received Check for a noisy line. Adjust the Tx levels of the communicating machines. See code 6-05.
6-05 G3 ECM - facsimile data frame not received within 18 s of CFR, but there was no line fail Check the line connection. Check connections from the NCU to the FCU. Check for a bad line or defective remote terminal. Replace the FCU, FCU or NCU. Try adjusting the rx cable equalizer Cross reference Rx cable equalizer - G3 Switch 07 (PSTN), G3 Switch 08 (PABX)
