HDMI output not working - Yamaha RX-V463

Hi I have the above receiver. I am trying to connect a HD Set top box to the unit via HDMI cable and take a HDMI out to TV. Issue is there is no Audio or Video, but when i unplug HDMI out from the AV receiver, i can hear audio via the amplifier thourgh the speakers without any issues. This setup works fine with a PC i.e. connect PC to AV receiver via HDMI and then HDMI out from AV Receiver into the HD TV. Please help! could there be a problem with the set top box or is this related to imcompatibility issues. Regards

SOURCE: Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

SOURCE: i just bought a yamaha rx-v365 receiver and hooked

Make sure that the DVD player is connected into the correct inputs on the receiver and that the receiver also has the correct input selected to play. If your TV also has component video inputs it is best to connect the player directly to the TV. Otherwise, make sure you have the TV connected to the receiver via component video out.

SOURCE: Intermittant Audio with Yamaha RX-V465 only from cable box

I have the same receiver... You can try pressing the Option button and choosing Signal Info to see what audio signal the receiver sees and if that changes over time. Maybe the cable box is not outputting according to specifications... TV can live with that, but receiver maybe can't.
You can also try to connect the cable box via SPDIF cable (optical or coax) to see if it helps or not.

Yamaha RX-V595 Receiver will play Dolby Digital 3/2.1 audio Blu-Ray disc with player set to bitstream but will not play DTS-HD 3/2.1 unless output is set to PCM. Is this an issue with the Yamaha Recei

The optical connection (SPDIF) doesn't have enough bandwidth to transfer DTS-HD audio. To use DTS-HD, you must connect the blue-ray player and receiver via HDMI cable.

Each DTS-HD audio track on blue-ray includes also "normal" DTS audio, which is probably used when you select PCM. Player decodes it and sends decoded (non-HD) audio via optical cable to receiver.

I need to hook up a yamaha 465 receiver

It has two HDMI inputs and one HDMI monitor output for the TV, so assuming all your devices are HDMI-capable, YES.

With Cable connected to the rx-465 input, I'm not getting HDMI output to a Samsung plasma TV. With DVD HDMI input I get HDMI output to the TV. Any suggestions on what I'm missing. Thanks, Greg

is the cable connection hdmi? is the unit capable of upconversion to hdmi, if you use a component connection? probably not. if it is capable of upconversion, check your input menu settings

The Yamaha RX-V463 AV does not playsound from the blue ray player

"I am also having difficulties in try to display the yamaha set up menu on the tv."
According to the manual the display menu for TV will not work with HDMI hook up.
I also have a Panasonic HD TV and can't get TV sound through my Yamaha AVR on "TV Sound" mode.  Trying to use HDMI cable for this also.  Do I need a digital optical cable or do I not have something set right?

Passing HDMI signal fro cable box to yamaha RXV463 to Samsung HDT

It sounds like a resolution problem to me. Try adjusting the video settings on your set. It may need you to switch modes as some TV's do this (Why I dont know). I have found that even sometimes its the cable service to blame.

Hookup diagram for Yamaha avr-863 receiver

It's the other way around.

Hook up the Cable box to the Amp; and the blu-ray to the amp, then connect amp to LCD.

you want to use the best available options for audio:
HDMI > Digital Optical > Digital Coax > standard RCA

And the similar for video:
HDMI > Component > SVideo > RCA cables

I would connect Blu-Ray via HDMI to Amp, and Cable box via HDMI to Amp. If your cable box does NOT support HDMI, but you have an HD package, ask your cable company for an upgraded box.

No audio after hooking up RX-V363 to TV monitor (from cable box )

The HDMI on the RX-v363 does not pass the audio.  You need to either connect an optical or digital cable from your audio source.  If it is a cable box or DVD player there should be audio outputs in addition to HDMI

Cable box HDMI connection probelm

This is from the Yamaha user guide:
The analog component video signals (with 480i (NTSC)/576i
(PAL) of resolution only) are converted to the S-video or
composite video signals and output at the VIDEO or S VIDEO
MONITOR OUT jacks.
The question is what kind of signals you get from your HD cable box.
