For the last 3-4 weeks, whenever we turn on the TV when it has been off for a few hours or more, the left side of the screen is blurry with lines and the images are a darker color than the right side of the screen. After 5 minutes the left side corrects itself and we have a perfectly clear picture. Any ideas on a fix?
Most likely a contact problem or broken track on one of the flexi circuits coming off the LCD screen - Repair shop would recommend a new screen. Some people have bodged repairs by putting pressure (layers if tape) on offending flexi circuit - see AVS forums - but this is definitely not recommended and if you are not skilled then working in the back of a TV can be lethal. My advice always buy LCD TVs with a 5 year warranty (Richer Sounds, JLP or similar).

I just had the national service tech tell us the LCD panel needs to be replace. Just under $2000 to replace it. I bought my TV in Dec of 07. Called Sony and the TV has 1 year warranty. They are going to "review" my case and let me know in 24-48 hours.
Testimonial: "Thanks very much for your response. I guess enough of us complained that they faced up to the fact that this is their "Toyota" and they'd best fix it"

It sounds like you might have a defective LCD panel. Your warranty for your TV is 18 months. Some of these models the warranty was mis-printed and said only 12 months.

I suggest that you install the following firmware update and check if that helps.

If the issue persists, service may be required.
Please perform reset by following the procedure before going for service.
To reset your TV to factory settings, turn the TV ON. Then, while pressing the UP ARROW button on the Remote Control, press the POWER button on the TV. The TV will turn itself OFF then back ON.
