I've just bought a second hand MP160,which I only intended to used as a scanner.
I can't get the scanner to operate due to an E5 error on the display,and a 2,114,0 error which appears as a pop-up when I attempt to scan.
Although empty,the cartridges are of the correct type and are seated properly.
When I remove the cartridges completely the error codes do not change.
Is an empty cartridge enough to cause this issue?

Empty cartridges may cause this error. Here is the error code list for your printer
E2-2 = No paper (ASF)
E3-3 = Paper jam
E4 = No ink
E5-5 = The ink cartridges are not installed or a non-supported ink cartridge is installed, or the ink cartridges are not installed properly
E8 = Waste ink absorber full, or platen waste ink absorber full
E9 = The connected digital camera / video camera does not support Camera Direct Printing
E14 = The Ink cartridges whose destination are wrong
E15 = Ink cartridge is not installed E16 - Ink remaining is unknown
E16 -E19 = Failed to scan head alignment sheet
E22 = Carriage error
E23 = Paper feed error
E24 = Purge unit error
E25 = ASF(cam) sensor error
E26 = Internal temperature rise error
E27 = Waste ink absorber full or platen waste ink absorber full
E28 = Ink cartridge temperature rise error -
E29 = EEPROM error
E33 = Paper feed position error
E35 15 = USB Host VBUD overcurrent error - USB
E37 17 = Abnormal motor driver error
E40 20 = Other hardware error
E42 22 = Scanner error

I have the same problem.Nie what I know I have to do
I refilled both of my ink cartriges a week ago and the printer wouldnt let me print. i pressed a button (orange triange in a circle) for 5 seconds and the E disappeared and i could print again. I have been scanning pictures recently however today the scanner wont work. it says something about "printer maintenance, continue after, code 2,114,0".
can anyone help?
i have the same problem.
the printer no action when i press a reset button. always display E5, 2,114,0. I believe no problem of ink cartridge install, i think this is a easy job, but when i installed the black and color cartridge, the two light twinkling, when i remove the color cartridge, and just the color cartridge light twinking.......
i have no ideal of it.... i just when to use the scan function, i heard someone told me that MP160 can not scan when the cartridge have problem.
how i can do......
