Look at the screen closely, if you can see a little bit of the image but only very
faintly, there is a possibility it is your backlight because the laptop
is
probably older than 3 years. If that is case you have to replace the ccfl bulb of
the screen. It is a relatively difficult repair but it can be done, if you look
for guides to replace the LCD backlight online you will find something. I work for company that does Laptop repair in NYC and we do this repair frequently. Be sure to get the exact ccfl lamp for your screen type on ebay, it's all about the right length of the bulb.
1. if u left it plugged in while u were gone anything could've happened.
2. ensure that the laptop is not operating on battery power only.
3. make sure your adapter is working properly, try to plug it up to another laptop, or check the LED light to see if it's operational.
4. ensure that the surge protector u have in the wall is not shorted, there are some models that will also tell u if the wiring within the wall is good or not because that could be shorted as well.
5. plug the laptop into a different outlet in the house.
You could have possible internal damage to the laptop...try system restore...if none of that works, if its still under warranty backup all your info to an external harddrive and send it in for repair.

Change the LCD screen, it can be solved there is no image on the screen, but the power light stays on Dark display but still readable computer problems, this should help you:http://www.lcdinverters.net/
I would say you either have a damaged inverter board or screen baclight lamp. Usually the inverter board fails in one of the following ways:
1. When you turn on the laptop, the screen lights up for a short period of time and then goes dark. You still can see an image but it is very dark, almost invisible and definitely not usable. When you restart the laptop, the screen lights up and then goes dark again. The laptop works fine with an external monitor. 2. Your laptop turns on but the screen remains dark all the time. You still can see a very dim image outline. The laptop works fine with an external monitor. 3. The laptop screen works fine for hours or even days, but sometimes it goes very dark as it mentioned above. When you restart the laptop, the screen works fine again.
Inverter failure symptoms are very similar to backlight lamp failure symptoms and in most cases you cannot tell which one is causing the problem until you replace either the inverter board or the backlight lamp. From my personal experience, inverter boards fail more often than backlight lamps. If you have to guess, replace the inverter first.
If you see a dim image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem. Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.
Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case. The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills. Check out www.lcdparts.net for parts, repair service and DIY info.
Sounds like the auto-dim in the BIOS is set too low. Fortunately the Compaq R3000 allows you to adjust the brightness right from the keyboard. Hold down the [FN] function key while tapping the [F8] key will brighten the screen, while [FN]-[F7] will dim it. The settings are different for running on AC power and battery, so you must do each individually.
hiiii ther
how r u ??
yeah ur back light is not working propley
u need to chick teh hardwear
if u need any further assistance email me u take care and have fun salammmmmm {bye in arabic } p.s rate me thanks
Check first that you have not the phone set in economy mode, eventual do a reset settings from phone settings menu.
If it does not depend on power settings, it means the backlight LCD lamp is either faulty or it has a bad contact, take it to a phone repair shop and ask how much do they charge for the repair, usually is not an expensive job.
Is it so dim that the screen cannot be read with shining a flashlight into it? if so this is a hardware failure not a brightness setting. let me know if it is.
If it is just somewhat dim but readable, there is probably a hotkey. Gateway laptops are all different.
Google search for your particular model and specifications. you will get the gateway support page for your notebook.
for example if you have an mx6550 enter this at google.com
