How to replace the brew o rings - Jura Capresso Impressa E9 Espresso Machine & Coffee Maker

Your machine needs dealer service. Either the brew group needs replacing or all the O-rings need replacing. The reason the grounds are wet is because water is forcing by the worn seals. These machines need dealer service every 6 to 9 months, and of course they don't tell you that when you buy them.

It is likely a tiny rubber nipple thing/gasket ring that is in the brew basket. They wear away and need replacement. Call keurig and they will ask you to mail back the brew basket for a replacement. They have great customer service.

I had the same symptoms, except in my case coffee would sometimes not be produced irrespective of whether 2 coffees were selected. Over a period of a few weeks the problem gradually got worse. When coffee was not produced, the coffee grinds in the waste container would be dry, indicating that hot water was not being forced through the puck. The problem in my case was the o-ring on the back of the brew unit was no longer reliably sealing the path from the hot water pump through to the puck, resulting in the hot-water being expelled directly into the drip tray and no coffee being produced. To fix, I removed the brew unit and replaced the o-ring on the back of the brew unit (3 minute task). Note: This o-ring is the most stressed in the entire system because it must withstand the high pump pressure as well as being inserted/removed from the hot water outlet each time a coffee is made. No other seal has to perform this task and Miele have obviously used a very high quality o-ring because this lasted 11,000 coffee cycles in my case. I would strongly advise you buy the Miele o-ring (about $4) and to also regularly cover this o-ring with the Miele grease (or other similar food grade grease). Also the old o-ring looked fine but this is deceptive. On close inspection I could see the old o-ring was a flattened on the outer edge and this was enough (given the high pressure required to force the water through the puck) to allow water to get past the o-ring and bypass the puck. In retrospect, there were other much earlier symptoms of the failing o-ring. Firstly when the brew unit was removed, the opening in aluminum panel to the brew unit drive would always be soiled by wet coffee waste, caused by coffee waste being forced back down the hot water pipe and escaping past the 0-ring seal (Note: Miele have designed the unit so that when the o-ring fails the water and coffee still return to the drip tray however it still creates a mess in the back of the machine. If it's really dirty then you need to remove brew unit drive fro cleaning and that is a significantly more complex task). The other symptom was that the coffee taste was not ideal and this is caused by the insufficient pressure being reached during extraction. So once I replaced this o-ring the coffee taste improved and the back of the machine was bone dry. I suspect Miele replace this o-ring every time they service these machines irrespective of symptoms because the cost is low and the impact of a failed (or failing) o-ring is significant. Regards

The valve parts need to be replaced, if it is only happening when brewing coffee then there is so much pressure on the pump that it is forcing the valve open. First try adjusting the amount of coffee be added to the chamber for brewing.

This is due to the failure of the brew system, 1, an o ring on the brew piston may have failed
2, the brew unit may have failed - Replacement will be required. 3, the brew motor may have failed - replacement will be required , 4, numbers 2 and 3 ...
The brewer and motor are not really serviceable (labour intesive) replacements are more economical. have to hope its just the O ring!!!!

make sure you use very dry non-oily coffee beans

the proper replacement steam ring has an up-side & down side. the brew-head plate must be installed with the grooved side facing up; the steam ring has a groove in one side that fits over the top up the brew-head plate...does this solve the problem? if not, you may have the wrong steam ring/the brewhead plate may be installed incorrectly...oh, nov of 08...i seriously hope you've figured this out already. if not, you don't happen to still have machine in your possession, do you? if so, i'll buy it for $5.

I ran the machine again using a plastic card to activate the micro switch for the dregs unit and it recycled the brew unit to the correct position so that it could be removed.
