Unable to play DVD - incorrect region code or disc type?

The LA95 is a multi regional DVD player, but yet it will not play either PAL or NTSC discs. Errorr message states the disc is the wrong region.
I have reset all the initial settings, as per the manual. The player is set to ratings 8 which is unlocked for all discs.

Daughter was mesing about with the player and she has done something which now prevents it from playing any disc!

Please advise.

Thanks in advance,

Craig (Father of unhappy children when travelling!)

    Hello nginter1,

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes it is a panasonic portable dvd player, bought in the USA. This was working fine, but now it cannot play the same disc.

I switched the unit on, (no disc) and pressed backwards and on at the same time, as per your fix. The message initialised was not displayed. Please advise.

    Cheers Craig

I also have the same problem, I have tried region 1, 2, 4. Region 0 plays fine. The DVD player is region 2. Has anybody else solved this problem?

  • ma6jrp Apr 19, 2009

I have done the reset correctly but still have the problem continues.

Region codes prevent playback of DVDs in other geographical regions. If you receive a region error while playing a DVD, this means that the region code of the DVD does not match the region code of the DVD drive. If you try to play Region 2 titles on a Region 1 DVD drive, you will receive an error message.

You can play the region-locked DVD on a region-free player such as Leawo Blu-ray Player which is free for windows and Mac.

Is it the Panasonic Portable DVD player

  • Natalie Ginter Nov 13, 2008

here is one thing it says

This unit responds to the Region Management Information recorded on DVD-Video. This unit’s region number is “1”. You cannot play the disc if the region number on the DVD-Video does not correspond to the region number on the unit.

You can play discs marked “1”, “ALL”, or with a region number including “1”.

Here is what I would do - default it to its original state see below -

Do the following to reset the unit to its original factory

settings. While the unit is stopped, press and hold

    [
;], [:] (backward), and [1, ON] on the main unit

for about 3 seconds until the message “Initialized”

disappears from the LCD, then turn the unit off.

How to make region free dvd

Usually a region 1 DVD player will not be able to be a multi region because it needs to be able to convert between pal and NTSC to play on your NTSC TV. Unless the player is a European model then it would be possible!

Wrong region

probably you are trying to play a disc that is not zone free or you need a code for your player to make it zone free. you may be playing a zone 2 disc ( PAL) on a machine that only takes zone 1 (NTSC) or vica-versa.

How to turn a sony bdp-s790 dvd multi region

Buy two players. One from each region.
If you ave an NTSC TV only, you will also need a PAL to NTSC converter, if you want to play UK PAL DVD`s on US or Asian TV`s. But I think all Euro/UK TV`s are all both color signals (PAL & NTSC).

I put in my dvd on my magnavox blue ray player and it says disc error then something like disc not recorded for thins region code * 2 * 45 *

DVDs are recorded for three world regions (for copyright reasons and to match the electronic TV system also broadly in three world regions known as PAL, SECAM & NTSC)
You're likely in the USA as you refer to the Magnavox brand.
Your region is 1 and system NTSC.
Your machine is correctly telling you it can't play the disc because it's for Region 2 system PAL.
However, there are multi region players available, for a few dollars more, which play discs of any region or system.

What format is used when the VHS is copied to the DVD ? I have copied the VHS tapes onto Verbatim DVD-R discs. They will not play on my computer. Verbatim says I need to know what format they are in...

the most common in the US is NTFS. another used in other countrys is PAL. the format is seperated into regions, and they are as follows,
REGION 1 -- USA, Canada
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
REGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia
REGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)
REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa
REGION 6 -- China
REGION 7 -- Reserved for Unspecified Special Use
REGION 8 -- Reserved for Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc...
REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.

you can use MAGICdvdRIPPER softwareon your computer, it works with NTSC, and PAL formats and vice versa.

I have just bought a Panasonic DVD-LA95 but did not realise that it is Region 1 only. I need to change it to region 2 to be able to use it here. Can you help please.

you need to check that it supports pal output, if its a european unit (check the manual and player bottom for the ce mark) then it will play pal discs and will need reverting to the multiregion upgrade ( a disc and a few button presses about £20 online)) if its an american unit then it wont play pal discs even if you do manage to multiregion it.
