Sounds like you either have a bad bearing in the pullys or pully or the guides that keep that belt in place are not doing their job. Any repair shop can change out a belt. However, fixing it is another thing. I had a customer who said every since he had his lawn tractor the belt wouldn't last long enough to get a summer out of it. I found the spring missing of the tensioner pully for the belt when it's engaged and also the guide for the belt was on backwards and therefore cutting the face of the belt.

SOURCE: I need to put a blade belt back on my Craftsman yard tractor

If you disengage the Blades like you normally would, this will give you plenty of slack in the belt to put back on. There should be a pulley or lever that tensions the belt when it is engaged and that is what is causing it to be too tight to put back on. Hope this helps

SOURCE: drive belt

You may find that you have the wrong belt - I bought a belt for the correct model and then found that there are two different sizes depending on the exact model - they are 3 inches different in length for my model CTH160 113" and 110". Got correct belt and fits properly now.

SOURCE: My Sears Craftsman Garden Tractor 22HP, dies after it gets hot

Sue your brother is right! I had the same problem and it turned out to be the gas cap. the small breather hole on the top was plugged with dirt. once I cleaned it out I took the rubber gasket out from the bottom of the cap and cleaned that as well. runs great now.

SOURCE: shredding belts

first make sure the belt is not hitting anything when the blade is engaged (engine off), the if ok remove belt and look in pulley grooves for rocks or chips., then run finger all around groove to make sure there is no catches or spurs. If that is all ok then with belt on and engine idleing as slow as possible and blade engaged look and see if pulley is wobbling, BE CAREFULL !! look at the engine pulley first then with EXTREME CAUTION look under deck from opposte side of chute. ( Check with deck at highest setting)

Instructions replacing mountfield drive belt

When replacing the drive belt on a rear-drive lawn mower, make sure the spark plug is disconnected, remove the blade, take off any bolts for the belt cover and remove the belt. Find out how to put a drive belt on the engine pulley with help from the owner of a small engine repair shop in the video on the website given below http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G0a11VtRRc

Why does my blade drive belt on my riding mower not stay tight

You likely have a bearing going bad causing the belt to slip and wear out, or you are not getting the adjustment tight enough. (most use springs these days)

L115 42'' deck drive belt breaks after only

Possible spindle bearing. ( mandrel bearings )
Spin blades by hand with deck belt disconnected and mower turned off of course. Listen for grinding noise. If so, Replace mandrels and bearings fully. I would replace all few pulleys.
Not too bad price from the right small engine repair shop such as places like Pats Small Engine in Minnesota. ( which pwns)

Model #LT4600 ...the belt that drives the blades comes off the pulleys continously . I take it to the authorized repair service shop (Extreme Engine Service /West Monroe ,La.)fot the repairs ,but it is...

We are a self help / DIY type of site. We provide free and pay for service repair advice at FixYa and are not affiliated with the retailer or dealers of the Huskee LT4600.
Having said that... There are a few thing you as the operator / owner can check.
- With the unit shut off deck raised try teetering each blade up and down by lifting and pressing down on the end of each blade. Watch the blade drive shaft under the mower to see if there is movement in the lower bearing area. Also watch the drive pulley above the deck to see if the blade drive shaft is moving in the mandrel. If you have noticeable moment of any blade shaft BELOW or ABOVE the Deck Base, the most likely problem is the Shaft bearings or the spindle housing (replacements not available for the spindle housing) .

See DETAIL 1 of this link:
http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=mtd&mn=13AJ771G031+%282009%29&dn=769043440018

Item 57 Bearing (2 ea) Or the spindle shaft Item 56 (1 ea) are the most like suspects.
Note the spacers Item 50 (2 ea) and Item 58 (1 ea)
A problem with any one of the above can cause the blade drive pulley to oscillate in an elliptical vs rotate true. When the pulleys oscillate they throw off the belt repeatedly.

I think your going to find movement of the blade spindle shaft(s) in the spindle housing(s)
Thanks for choosing FixYa,

When I replaced Blades Theirs a star shaped shaft that the blades slide on before you place bolt on. I noticed the star shaped shaft is rounded off. How do I repair this? THANKS!

I think you must replace the entire mandrel. Small engine repair shops carry them, expect about $40.00. Drop the deck, take off the blade drive belt, remove 3 bolts, your blade is already off, take mandrel out and install new one in reverse order.

Hi, I have a westwood ride on mower & the 3 bladed 36inch deck has started to whine bearings I think? Are they easy to change? special tools? parts off who? the machine is just 3 years old Thanks JT

I assume you are referring to the deck bearings. The easiest way to replace the blade drive bearings is to remove the deck from the mower. You can then easily remove the blades, clean the deck and be able to easily get to the bolts holding the bearings and pulleys in place. This is normally a straightforward repair and can be accomplished with common hand tools. You will need to purchase the parts from the dealer who sells the mower. Replace all 3 set of bearings. On a 3 year old mower ask yourself why the bearings failed. Are you washing under the deck when the bearings housings are hot? That will cause premature failure. Are you greasing the bearings regularly?

How do you replace the mower belt on a cub cadet?

check the alignment of the ideler pully to make sure it is even withe the drive pulleys. if not in line it will cause the belt to break. There is a spacer that is on the idler that should be on top and not on the bottom of the pully.
