Press the FN blue Key and look for an icon Blue at the top of the keyboard that look either like a brightness sunshine picture, make sure to hold the FN key down as you press the sunshine brighter key tap it until the light on the screen gets brighter. To check if the external video port on the laptop by connecting an external monitor to the laptop and see if it works. If it does work then the video port is OK and the only thing I can think of is :-
What is the highest resolution that the projector can display?
Is the video resolution on the laptop set higher than the projector's maximum resolution, if so reduce the screen resolution on the laptop.

I take it you need a new case--I would suggest looking on e-Bay. That is my first choice for spare parts. Of course, you could contact the manufacturer, but you would be paying too much!
