Sony kdf60xbr950 Having the same problem with no picture. Green lights blinks first then the red lamp light. My first thought is the lamp. Then I had talked to a tech and he tried to tell me that its the balist or the power supply and likley not the bulb? Has anybody else been throught this and what was the outcome. This is the original bulb with only about 1000-1500 hours on it ? was working fine one day and the next this ?

The problem here with the lamp is it has an average 2,000 hour life--only way for a "tech" to know if it is the problem is to replace it.

The ballast is the power supply for the lamp---lamp goes bad a lot more often than the ballast= sounds like the tech wants to create a shop repair..........

Sometimes the lamp will provide a warning by being dimmer just before it fails and sometimes not.

The lamp is customer replaceable(owner manual and You Tube have written and video instructions for most models).

You if change the lamp take a gamble--either it fixed the problem or not--Any shop or expert who tells you to replace the ballast first without even trying another lamp (10 minute job) is feeding you a story for lack of another expression.

I kept having this problem every three years or so. 60 inch Grand Wega would switch off (picture and sound) and switch back on. Each time I solved it with the purchase of a new lamp (XL2100U - instructions for replacement were available in pdf online, and there's probably a youtube video somewhere).

Well... A couple of weeks ago, it began doing the same, like clockwork, three years from my last purchase date. But I saw someone's comment here in Fixya about blowing dust out the back of the lamp.

So I got my air compressor and blew air through the plastic grill work that forms the box shaped housing behind the bulb, and through other openings, then popped it back in.

It hasn't cut out SINCE. And luckily I kept the older bulb too. So try this before you run out to buy a replacement bulb.
