Brother mfc 9700 scans one page and ejects the rest

When using the feeder, it scans only one page. Thereafter, it keeps ejecting all papers. I am using paperport 12 to scan.

SOURCE: OCR problems for Brother MFC-8660DN with Vista 64bit

You are correct in that paperport 9 will not work on Vista and paperport 11 is the alternative. I called about a similar model and the guy at Brother told me that paperport 11 is included on an updated cd from brothermall.com for some models. It was only about $3 so you might want to check for your model. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Bad Scan Quality Using Brother MFC-7820N Document Feeder

Look to the left side of the flatbed glass for a thin strip of glass by itself. When you scan from the glass, the document stays put and the sensor moves across the document. When you scan from the feeder, the sensor stays in that glass strip and the document moves across the sensor. See what I mean? I would check the small feeder glass for dirt or scratches from staples or other flotsam. Also not a bad idea to blow out the feeder path with some compressed air to ensure the documents is handled smoothly. Hope this helps!

Suddenly, our Brother MFC 9840cdw keeps spinning its top paper feed rollers, forevier, and says Fax Only, Please Wait. When we press the Copy or Print buttons to get out of Fax mode, nothing happens. I...

It does sound like a paper sensor in the automatic document feeder may be stuck and the machine keeps trying to eject the paper that is not there. I have not seen this before, you may have to call Brother at 1-877-BROTHER to find the nearest service center.

Paper Jam whilst doing a multi page scan

The rollers that pull the paper through could need a cleaning. With general usage these parts do get worn down. By having your printer cleaned by certified technician it would resolve this problem.

Brother MFC 7420. New Brother Toner, New Drum, cleaned feed and separator rollers, changed paper, still jamming. Paper stuck around brown fuser roller. What can I do next?

Check whether the fuser rollers are free turning. If the paper is stopped at the ejection roller, the ejection roller needs to be replaced.

Only prints 1/4 of the page, then ejects the paper.

Hi donlyn941,

I have exactly this problem. I am using Windows Vista. I had this printer installed automatically by Vista, without any CD.

What I did to resolve this:

  1. Power down the printer first by holding down the "Power Save" button
  2. When the LED screen is off, wait for 5 seconds.
  3. Power up the printer by pressing the "Power Save" button.
  4. During Step 3, we will hear a "dun-dun" sound, which means the printer is connected.
  5. I started printing, without the 1/4 page. :)
Hope this helps.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Scanning

Our problem is not solved. It was suggested the feeder needed cleaning or wasn't working. The feeder works as we make copies of documents. If one is scanning can you feed the document or can you only scan one page at a time by placing it on the window?
