No picture or sound with a red flashing power light. Have replaced the convergence IC's but no change (do not have the chirpint sound). Removed main power board & green LED does not light up. Does anyone know which components to test/replace to get this board back up & running? Thanks!

On that model the conv IC is usually not the solution. I believe its the blown capacitor problem with is an easy fix. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com for a repair kit.

Thanks for the tip! Have emailed them twice with no response & didn't find a power supply kit for an Hitachi. Started checking voltages again and found a couple components that were shorted so ordered new ones in. Hopefully those will bring it back to life & I will post the fix!

Have a Sony KP-65WV600, already replaced d board once, and replaced convergence ic's once also. Now as soon as I turn unit on, turns to red screen and shuts off, video that is, audio works ok, noticed...

Check High voltage Block. After replacing ic's (STK convergence ic's) you need to adjust Black&White scale.Turn ALL screen adjustments to min.Turn TV on and adjust screen slowly for each gun (I would start with Red first ) when you came to point that you see red background with white lines across, at that point G2 is too high (that will cause TV to shut down, don't worry just lowered adjustment and turn tv back on) so adjust to proper voltage and do the same for each gun. After that, adjust focus for each gun (again all controls are on High Voltage Block and HVB is mounted on front of your tv after you take speaker gril out) black box with 6 controls' screen RGB, focus RGB .
You should do that in dark room in order to get perfect Black&White scale, when all guns are adjusted properly you will see grey picture.Make sure 'Color" adjustment on your display is down to 0. Another step is convergence adjustment ,Flash Focus etc.If TV stil shuts off after all, your Red picture tube is short inside, take crt pcb from tube, make sure TV is unpluged from power before that, and turn Tv on .If stays On tube need replacment...good luck)

When you push the power button, the screen flashes a picture, and than goes dark. The power button stays solid red.

Two probably solutions:
1.-- SSB need be replace
2.-- Convergence IC's need be replace.
You need to have electronic skills. is hard to do this work.
Be careful, try to find a TV shop for help.
Thank you

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Green projection light not alligning with red and blue. Flash focus will not bring them back. Sony Rear Projection KP-48S70

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Note:The convergence/defletion/power board (the one the IC's are on) of this model is on the left hand side (when facing the back of set) also check for blown pico fuses when replacing the convergence IC's The best way to replace the IC's resistors and possibly fuses is to remove the entire board.

When the power button the red button flashes but nothing else hap

the red light flashing means the set is in auto shut down, could be a power supply problem or a convergence IC problem. tech should first check all diodes and caps in power supply then replace convergence IC's

Tv won't come on

Mine is Toshiba 55 TZ, have it since 98', shutdown and red light blinking problem, search the ned and found out, generally a Convergence IC (stk392-110) problem. bought 2 for $15 at suburban-elect.com (ebay). replaced following direction from http://www.casiasfamily.com/repairlog/tp50h15.html

Open back cover, 9 screws and wirings (pls mark), removed(soldered) a electronic board infront of convergence ic. removed IC (stk392-110) (screwed and soldered).

Replaced everything and voila...! it is now working again..
no more shutsdown and red blinking light. Saves mo $400 for a repariman. of course just be careful with static and stuff.

I don't know how to solder, so I ask friend to do it for me. But I did the rest. Just to give you an idea that it can be done even if you don't know much about electronics. This in no way a recommendation but just stating my experience. Follow at own risk.

TP50G60 bad scrambled picture - shuts off after 1 minute

This does not sound to me like a convergence roblem. It could be a shorted picture tube. That would put the set in a shutdown condition. Normally in Toshibas , the picture remains on with a convergence problem. Here is something you can try, but you must be very careful. Remove one crt board at a time from all three tubes. if the set stays on after one of the crt board are removed , then that is the shorted picture tube.I cannot caution you on how care full you have to be trying this procedure.
