My pilot went out. The gas company came out and said that the oven has an 100% gas shut off valve. He said that it need to be reset. How do I reset it. I need my oven to work, like now. Do you have any suggestions for me?

How do I turn off the pilot light in my Magic Chef 31000paw oven? I think when it stays on it is wasting gas.

I don't know. While half a century ago it was common that pilot lights would be permanently lit to provide instant lighting of oven and hobs, because they did consume a significant amount of gas they fell out of favour and spark ignition became reliable.

Amid a number of related and unrelated accidents the gas oven began to be seen as potentially dangerous and so they were fitted with a couple of safety devices so for a considerable time the pilot light has to be relit every time the oven is used and the pilot light will be switched off when the oven burners are turned off.

Thinking back a long time, the pilots of our old cooker could be turned off using a screwdriver to turn a central service valve hidden under the hob spill tray.

I have Magic Chef gas oven. Model CPR1100ADW. The pilot light don't light up nor does it come on. I don't smell gas coming from it. I can't figure what it is. Can you help me.

The oven probably has an igniter to light the pilot, and when not in use, shuts the gas off. Unplug the stove to replace the igniter. Enter your stove info and "how to replace oven igniter" on you tube for videos and detailed instructions.

We have a Magic Chef gas oven (model # CPL1100BDW) without electronic ignition. The oven isn't working. The oven pilot is out, can't get it to light, and the oven will not light - (obviously)....

Hello & Welcome to FixYa
If the pilot is clean and still won't light then the problem is with the safety valve that won't open and so needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Magic Chef range the pilot on the oven will not light.

Is this a manual lighting pilot,do you light it?

If so you may have a bad gas valve.

If this is an auto light pilot it could be the electronic spark is bad.Im guessing the popping noise is the autospark trying to light.

Oven pilot light is on, but burners will not light. pilot light burns larger when trying to turn burner on. Do I need a new thermostat?

The thermostat is doing it's job if the pilot gets bigger. When you turn on the thermo, it does 2 things: Makes the pilot bigger and supplies gas to the oven safety valve in the oven. The bigger pilot heats up the bulb from the valve and the stuff inside expands and turns on the main gas. The oven cycles when temo is reached by making the pilot smaller. The most common problem is that the pilot doesn't get big enough to satisfy the valve. Take out the pilot burner ***'y. (7/16" wrench for the nut). Replace the pilot burner. The part is probably a 5414S030 if the valve bulb is located parallel to the ***'y.

I cant find the stove top pilot

Electric Ignition (sparking clicking noise when control knob is turned to "light" setting) do not have pilots. The spark ignites the gas.

Pilot lit, ignitor glowing, oven will not light

A pilot light and a ignitor do the same thing. no unit would have both.

Perhaps you are confusing the thermo-coupling for an ignitor. An ignitor (glow plug style) is ceramic with a conductive coating on the end powered by electricity supplied by two high temperature coated wires that connect to the oven controller.

A replaceable thermo-couple looks like a copper tube with a elongated bulb at one end and a fitting at the other. The bulb is placed in the pilot flame and the fitting screws into the gas valve.

I am looking at a exploded diagram for the model number you listed. The unit uses a "safety valve" with the thermo-couple incorporated into it. To see the exploded view, click here If
you are asked for a model #, use CPL1100ADW. In section 2, gas controls, Diagram location 17 is the safety valve. Click on the part photo for a better view of the valve.

If you have any questions, let me know. Hope this gets your unit up and running again.

Please take the time to give this solution a fix ya rating,

I have a 1948 Magic chef gas oven.Model # 8620. The gas was turned off at my home and the pilot light on the oven went out. The gas is now on and I need to relight the pilot light. I am not sure on the ove...

You did say 1948, as in 60 year old range?
Well, gas ranges did not have fancy safety valves or things like that back then. Most likely when you turn on the gas, a small amount of gas begins escaping at the pilot orifice. Then use a long handled lighter to put a flame there. Pilot should light right away.
