Handset Won't Connect to Base Station

The phone doesn't get a dial tone or ring.  (And, the page/find feature won't work.)
The handset has power (I can adjust the ringer volume level, check Caller ID, etc.) and the base station has power (the green Status light illuminates when the handset is in the base).  It is connected to a working telephone line.
My best guess is that this is an "Automatic Digital Security Code" issue.  (This all started after I unplugged the base station one night and plugged it in the next morning.)
I've followed the steps in the owners manual to reestablish communication, but it doesn't fix the problem.  I've also unplugged the base station for long periods of time and even removed the battery from the handset for long periods of time.  All to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for your help, but I don't think this solution works for my problem.

For starters, I don't have two handsets.  And, my handset doesn't denote HS1 or HS2.  I think you must be referring to a different model and a different problem.

    But, thanks anyway.

    Anyone else??

    Hey Brian,

    Thanks again for trying.

Yes, like I mentioned in my posting, I've done all that.  I know the procedure (as explained in the owner's manual) and have even talked with Uniden (who suggested just buying a new phone).

Just hoping somebody has a solution for this problem.

    Thanks!

OK sorry guess I was thinking you had 2 handsets.
My suggestion is go to the Uniden website and maybe see what they have there.

Maybe do a search on the Uniden site for that Automatic Digital Security Code thing, seems it would be easy to fix, just a matter of how....

In the meantime I'll do some searching and see if I can help and find a fix

Here's is the fix, I just had the same problem.

I have 2 handsets here and just had replaced in 1 of the handsets.

Here's the trick, make sure the correct handset is in the correct base. The way this is done is when one of the handsets are in their bases, they will show either HS1 or HS2 in the upper right hand part of the display.

When they are in the correct base, then go push the Find HS button on the main base and you will hear the page feature paging the other base.

When the 2nd handset starts beeping just push the Find HS button again and other handset should work.

After that it don't matter which handset is in which base.

Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks,
Brian

No and we have two phones and neither of them can hear the incoming call yet they can hear us. Nothing happened to the phones they were working and then they did not.

Not likely defective, just need to be reset. If I understand correctly, no ring with an incoming phone call, but the intercom feature works fine. The ringer on the handsets is either "off" it will say no ringer or the base station is not communicating correctly. Intercom is handset to handset. Phone calls pass through the base station first. Of course, check the base unit: power on, phone line plugged in, antenna attached. Then try the phone line to check for dial tone with a regular, "old" analog telephone. If you are using these with a PBX, you must have an analog line installed.

Hello.

From FixYa Support:

- unplug base unit for 15 seconds
- press "PROGRAM" button on handset
- from menu, select "HANDSET SETUP"
- from menu, select "REGISTRATION"
- handset display will prompt you to press and hold PAGE button on base unit for 5 seconds, then press "PROGRAM" button on handset

Perform steps for each handset. You may need to plug base unit and unplug for each handset.

Hope this helps.

I have uniden dxa1850 series phone. It was working fine, but now I can't get a dial tone. I tried the basic fix of unplugging and removing but it still does not work

Check that you have power (eg. Led indicator is on) to your Base station.

If you have power to the base station and you still do not have a dial tone, plug in a non-cordless handset to the phone socket and see if you have a dial tone on yor non-cordless handset, then you have a faulty base station.

Hope it helps and good luck! let me know how you go!

Uniden cordless phone

Hello, While I cannot locate that model in any Uniden database (you might want to find the literature), It sounds as if the handset may be communicating with its base, but you have lost the dial tone. Did any storms pass through recently? Here is what you do. Go to your base and push the locator button on your base station to call the handset via the page/locator function. If it rings the handset and you can answer it okay then you know your handset is working well and communicating with your base (the radio portion is working correctly). If it does not ring your handset then your Uniden is definately bad (radio wise). But, I am going to guess that it is okay but you still cannot communicate with the outside world and dial out to get dial tone or get an incoming call. Okay, so we have a dial tone problem. The next step is to see if dial tone is getting to your base. So you will need to take another good telephone, preferably a handy "line powered" telephone (no batteries or ac adapter needed) you can use in a power failure emergency. Take that good phone and plug it into the phone cord you unplug from your Uniden base. If you get dial tone, then your uniden does need repair. If it does not get dial tone, then you have a bad cord, jack or something in your phone wiring. If thats the case, change cords, look for corrosion, dirt or bent pins in the jack on the wall. My guess is that your Uniden has gone bad, likely from a slight surge on the phone line. If you do need your Uniden repaired you can contact Uniden they are at http://www.uniden.com/repair/service.cfm , however I don't believe they offer repair, but offer to sell you a replacement. Or you can go to www.cordlessrepair.com where you can get your Uniden Cordless unit repaired, not exchanged. Good Luck, CG

Handset has No link to base

I was having the same problem with the same model phone, and fixed the problem by rebooting the phone – unplugging the AC and phone cord from the base station and plugging both back it, then removing and replacing the handset to regenerate the security code.

No Dial Tone

I have found this free link on BT site for you
http://www.shop.bt.com/content/uni2/documentation/498n/025455.pdf

If the second handset works ok on the base and the first handset doesn't, then you are right...the fault lies with the first handset. There are batteries ( special type ) in the handset, it sound as if either the batteries are dead, or not charged ( try charging them for 12 hours on the good base station ) or the connection is bad.

Handset ?No Link To Base? error and no dial tone

2/29 Have you registered or re-registered the handset?
"No link" can mean handset is not accepting radio wave of base unit. At Mfgr website pull-down operator's manual and look for registration instructions. Some sequence of buttons will create a radio signal from base (have handset off base) then another sequence of buttons on handset will accept radio signal. If handset has "menu" button, try "menu", then "00" (zero zero) then select an accept or "OK" button. Good luck.
