Most new tv's are digital capable...
but here is the trick the convertor box are only for those who don't have cable or satellite service if you use only an antenna to get channels then yes you will need a converter box for each tv that uses only the antenna to get channels if you have satellite or cable service then they don't need a converter box even if they have basic cable they won't need the box there channels are already digital converting now there are a few events that was in anlog but there are being converted as best as possible but you may notice the difference in the pictures betwwen analog (usaully old time movies or show even commercials) Digital (most everything now that are new stuff are digital and even in hd now)...

I just received a tv from my church and it is a toshiba 27df46 27" tv. It says" please wait, thank you for your patience". I wait and nothing, Help please? Thanks.

The set is trying to auto program the available channels and it can't find any because since the change from analog to digital [FEB 2009] broadcasting requires a "converter box" to translate the digital signal back to analog. Check around and see if you can find a converter box. They were available for $20 with a coupon, maybe they still are. Try an electronics shop or dealer for that info.

Our tv doesn't have sound or picture

You need a Digital to Analog converter box as your TV is analog, and all broadcasts, since Last June 12 are Digital.

Analog or digital compatible?

I didn't see anything on the internet about the features.

Does your tv tuner have the capability of tuning into channels with a decimal point in them, then it should work. If your tv doesn't have that feature, chances are you will need a converter box, cable tv, or satellite.

Is it ready for digital signals??

No this set isn't. I think you'll need a converter box. This is classed as an analog TV.

Tuner

Yes, you will need the converter box in order to view the digital channels if you are receiving off the air signals but if you have cable or satellite TV, you might not needed. You can click here to know the specs of your TV, it has an analog tuner and not a digital.

DTV????????????????????????

From the side of the carton in which it came:
CONSUMER ALERT: This television receiver has only an analog broadcast tuner and will require a converter box after February 17, 2009 to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna because of the U.S.'s transition to digital broadcasting. Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products. For more information, call the Federal Communications Commission at 1-888-225-5322 (TTY: 1-888-835-5322), or visit the commission’s digital-television Web site at: www.dtv.gov.
The only other thing I could add to this, is that the Post Office in 2009 will get the task of handing out $40.00 coupons to to anyone wishing to purchase a converter.
