Monitor goes blank less than a second after turning on.

It's an LCD so the problem is most likely the back-light inverter board. Take a flashlight and shine it directly into the screen from the front. Can you see the image on the screen now? If the image is there but you can't see it without the flashlight than the inverter board needs to be replaced. This is a VERY common problem. Good Luck and let me know what happens, His Dudeness

OK PEOPLE I GOT THE SOLUTION TO THE MAG INNOVISION LT916S GOING BLACK AFTER ANY LENGTH OF TIME BEING ON!!! I JUST REPAIRED MINE TODAY! THE PROBLEM IS THE CAPACITOR BANK IN THE POWER SUPPLY PART THERE ARE 6 CAPACITORS I HAD A FEW LEAKY ONES "NOT GOOD" THE CAPACITOR SPECS ARE AS FOLLOWS 470UF 25V 105 DEGREES C MEANING 470 MICRO FARAD/25 VOLTS I HAD A VERY HARD TIME FINDING THE 25 VOLT ONES SO I WENT WITH 470UF/35V 85 DEGREES C THEY MIGHT NOT LAST AS LONG AS THE OTHERS DUE TO THE TEMP RATING HOWEVER, IM THINKING SINCE THEY CAN HANDLE UP TO 35 VOLTS IT SHOULD EVEN OUT AND HEY, ITS WORKING SO FAR SO GOOD!! THE CAPACITORS ARE FROM UNDER A DOLLAR A PIECE TO A COUPLE BUCKS EACH. THE CAPACITORS HAVE A BOLD LINE RUNNING UP ON ONE SIDE INDICATING THE POLARITY. BOLD LINE SIDE IS "-" SIDE WITHOUT BOLD LINE ITS "+" THE POWER SUPPLY BOARD HAS THE POLARITYS STAMPED ON THE BOARD ITSELF UNDER EACH CAPACITOR. EASY 30 MINUTE FIX IF YOU ARE LEARY ABOUT SOILDERING, FIND A FRIEND THAT KNOWS HOW TO. ITS REALLY NOT THAT HARD THOUGH AND YOULL HAVE SOME DECENT ROOM TO WORK WITH. Temporary get you working fix. These back lights work similar to a striplght in your ktchen where the need a starter but in ths case an electronic starter in the nverter board. Now I have one of these monitors that flashes on at startup . You may find that if you repeatedly plug/unplug the Dc power jack a few times in very quick succession it will spring into life This mimics the electronic boost the starter gives the fluorescents on startup. warning this is not a solution to the problem but something you can try to get you working. I recomend you get the inverter/ fluorescents repaired. also you will probably find that it wont subsequently light up after power save mode switches off the monitor. This info may be of some help to someone to get them out of the "doo doos" but not recomended long term.

Your computer is probably fine. More than likely the inverter board for your LCD has gone bad. The inverter board powers the back lights in your LCD. If you will take a flash light and shine it directly at the LCD you will probably see the display very dimmly. You can purchase the board and swap it yourself or you can pay someone to do it. Either way it will be cheaper than buying a new LCD.

LCD COMPUTER MONITOR symptom: you turn power on, but the screen goes black after a few seconds. Usually happens after a year or more out'a the box (and beyond the warranty). Most likely, you've got defective capacitors on your power supply (invertor) board. Mine were bulging out their tops; this happens when the DEFECTIVE wet electrolyte drys out, gets very hot and creates gas that tries to escape. The result is drastically reduced capacitance, and ultimately a blank screen.

I ordered 7 new caps on Ebay for $5 and replaced them myself. Monitor works fine now, good as new. I've since learned there is a rash (tens of millions) of bad caps out of Taiwan that have made there way into tons of monitors and other devices. The caps for my $300 Gateway FDP1960 19" LCD Monitor were the 470uF 25v 105C type, and the 220uF 25v 105C type. If you're a competent hobbyist or tinkerer, you can do this repair yourself. In addition to your soldering iron, you'll need a solder suction tool.

After you unplug the power cord (!) and remove the screws on the back, you split the case with a screwdriver (scotch-taped to prevent mucking the finish) by prying/inching along the perimeter bottom and sides. It requires some unusual force to open, but that's how they're made. (If you're reasonably careful, it will snap back together, later, after the repair is made).

Once the case is open, you follow the obvious by removing screws, the screen, cover, and then finally access the power supply (the one with all the bulging caps). As always, be sure to unplug the thing before opening!

I have the same problem with Dell E197FPf. I opened it up and this is my inverter board. I am not sure which component would be the problem. I have the soldering tools.

19" Dell monitor e196FPf has the problems described above. Screen goes black after a second. The flashlight tests works as described. The screen is visible with a flashlight. I took it apart and no visible failure in board, Where can I find the inverter board? The LCD is made by Philips, No manufacturer listed on circuit card number 79044120

Worked for about 8 hours on same problem.. Had power, ran pc diagnostics cards all good all tests passed. Changed power cord still went to black screen in about a sec. Finally said screw it went to wally world (wal-mart) bought a new monitor $168.00 for 19 inch. And walaaaa problem solved. Cheaper then the headache I was gettin... Good luck all. Hope this helps.

I agree with rifleman the inverter board has gone bad due to 4 or 5 bad capacitors. If you know what you are doing you could replace them yourself saving the cost of a new inverter board.

I am having sorta the same problem with this same monitor. The only difference is taht mine stays on for about 30 mins then shuts off. The green light is still on, but if you turn the power on and off it will come back on for about 3 to 4 seconds then goes blank again. If you let it sit for about 5 mins it will work for around 20-30 mins. I dont know if it is the invertor board or whatever you said earlier i was just wondering if it was the same thing. Because I would rather pay 90 bucks instead of 300 for a new monitor it just makes sence

The problem with most benq moniors is that the inverter fails. The solution is to replace 2 2sc 5707 transistors and 1 fun9024n mosfet. there is also a fusible link that is open circuit. The reason they go bad is because the formers are dry jointed. also heatsinking the transistors gives it more reliability.

I had the same problem and on top of that the monitor would flicker before turning on for one sec and off. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 931e.
I opened the monitor (6 screws), looked at the power board. I had to change 3 capacitors that were bulging (bad ones). I used the parts from an old VCR that was in my trash bin in the shop.
Cost to repair $0, time 45min.

I just fixed my IBM 17 inch LCD monitor by replacing 1 of the bad (leaky) capacitors. fixing it myself = $.5 dollars.

I was given an HP pavilion f1503 with the same problem. Turns on, goes black. Using a flashlight I was able to see my desktop once it loaded. I opened the monitor and found cold solder joints on the coils. I very very gently sanded them and re-soldered. While I had it open I touched several of the "cold" joints with the iron. Let them cool at room temp, put back together, and started it up. Works fine now for almost a year. Its not always a bad inverter. Cold joints appear gray instead of silver (solder) and are EASY to fix.

Hi, I have two 19" Zerox monitors and i'm slighty annoyed, because its only just been over a year, (literally 7 days) and one of them is playing up. Its more and likely going to be the inverter board, but if your desperate to get the thing on, try this, turn it on, then as soon as you get a picture press and hold the menu button down and it will miraculously flick/brighten up, like its ignited. Do try it a few times though, but its worked for me. Will have to get it fixed, looked for prices for inverter boards average £15-20, but hard to find an xerox one. I think it shouldn't cost more than £40 max to get it fixed or D.I.Y it.

I just posted a fix for the blank screen after seeing XP.
All I did was to press the "Auto" button twice and it reconfigures itself to auto fix itself back to normal.

Try this on yours. It worked on mine and I was ready to chuck my monitor (literally) on the bin. Was also ready to pay a technician to look at it for me.

I was told I had to pay $40 just for them to look at it then I will have to pay if they're going to fix it. I heard him mentioned coz the parts are not the normal parts he will have to look online for a fix.

So, I took it back and did the search myself online and found it.

I had the same problem with my LG monitor. it was on the inverter board - a 680uF, 25V electrolytic cap. The top had "mushroomed? and when I removed the cap it only read 178uF, and had high ESR. Since I was in there I replaced the other 680uF cap, several 1,000uF caps, and 2x 470uF caps. Most of them were reading other than labeled. The monitor has been working fine since. I got the caps from Mouser Electronics on line - the parts were here within 3 days, and it took about 15 min.s to change them all.

Could be a number of things. If the computer turns off, you may have a power problem - newer Intel boards have an extra power connector that needs to be connected to the board, so make sure you've done that - your power supply may be on it's way out - try substituting a new one If the computer remains on but fails to boot, you may have one of a host of issues - check to see that your hard drives, add-in cards, your graphics cards and memory, are well seated and connected well (push them in firmly) - make sure that your mobo jumper for RAID are set correctly - try resetting your CMOS by changing the jumper, starting, then changing the jumper back (refer to your mobo manual) If your computer stays on and boots fine, your monitor may be broken. Try another monitor to check

I have a Compaq FP 7317 and have the going blank after time issue.
After much reading an some play inside i havnt solved the issue entirely.
But i have found if i turn the bightness down to 0% the screen will stay on fine.
If i increase the brightness to 20% it will work for about 1 to 2 hrs.
Ive tried to check for dry joints but only a quick visual will go more in depth with my multimeter to see what i can find.

Common LCD problems & probable causes:

Blanks out, Dark Display - Defective Inverter , Lamp, Controller board

Flickers / Lines on screen - Controller board, LCD panel, Power supply

Dead - Power supply, Controller power circuit

Dim / Darker than normal - Weak lamp

Display blinking - Power supply /inverter board

Dude. Push either the + or minus button between the MENU and AUTO/SELECT buttons. The + selects the DVI input and the minus selects the VGA. I suspect you are currently mismatched.

The problem is caused by two capacitor of 680uF 16V.

Same thing happened to me.. Jus keep playing with the buttoms on your monitor.. One of them should change the mode from analog to digital.. Hold up down menu keys.. Some random presses and your monitor will come to life

I recently hooked up my desktop to a wireless router and everything was fine until I shut down my computer to move it to another location. Once I did that the monitor would not work...same problems as listed in all the other posts. I am not an overly computer literate person but I tried everything that I knew and finally for some reason I tried a different power cord. (only the power cord to the monitor, not a new strip plug) THAT FIXED MY MONITOR. Not sure why the power source would have been the issue, but using another cord worked.

It could also be possible there are supression coils in the circuit of the inverterboard they are not good cleaned before soldering in factory and the time to soldering was not long enough so it is sometimes that will work and sometimes not that is by the most lcd monitors a point to always give an extra attention most times they are mounted with silicone take it out scrape the ends clean because sometimes there is too much insulating lacquer and solder them back again, this has been replaced with all the good will in the world an underestimated problem, I have repeatedly experienced the capacitors with Fujitsu Siemens and Acer is beautiful is not always enough

If screen shows light 2sec off goes dark you can see pictures change 47 uf 105c 25v..capasitor.

Buy a new one its cheaper on ebay.

Your LCD or LED panel is suffering from backlight issues. If the monitor says its on but you can't see the image, try to shine a light on it. If the image is somewhat visible, then your backlight needs to be replaced. Call your product's company customer support, and don't try to fix it yourself unless you know what you are doing.

Just change the board or fix the bad caps

I solved my problem of LCD monitor (AOC LM928) continually going blank in less than a second, effectively by simply removing the strip around the front of the monitor!

I have concluded that my problem, which had progressively got worse over 15 months or so until it was permanent, was that one or more monitor buttons, probably either the power button or the auto button, was pressing permanently against the switches behind (through the plastic component between) continually triggering display cut-off.

I just fixed my dell 17 inch LCD monitor by replacing 1 of the bad (leaky) capacitors. fixing it myself = $1.70 dollars.

I have seen the problem on my brand new Dimension E520. There is an issue with the ATI drivers, so you should make sure you have the latest versions before you resort to getting the soldering iron out! If you started seeing the problem after a Windows patch update, suspect the software first.

Most likely the LCD has gone bad, or backlights I sould say. Cheap if you work in a place where electronic things are laying around.

The power supply board inside your LCD monitor has 6 bad capacitors. If you remove the power supply board, look for the bad caps that are buldged up on the tops. These caps are all standard values that you can get at any electronic parts store. Less than $10 and about an hour of labor will do it.

If you see picture on LCD when shining to the panel with flashlight as someone worte in first solution, the problem is in the inverter board as has been written. You may try to change electrolytic capacitors on the inverter board, there usualy are only few of them and they are cheap. But you need basic skill with soldering. If doesn't help you have to change the inverter board.

I had the identical problem; in my case, and I'm guessing in yours, the flashlight test fails, i.e., the problem is not the backing light. I recently gave the monitor away to a gentleman who claims to have found the problem: the monitor is overheating and automatically shuts off for safety purposes. He says that he fixes these monitors by opening them (this is difficult) and then finding the loose connection causing the problem and resoldering it (somewhat less difficult).

Also check the connections to the backlight tubes. Mine had a dry joint on the pink wire. Monitor runs then inverter shuts down as the tube currents are unbalanced.

Sounds like Rifleman may have the answer. I too have this issue and have not been able to figure it out after all sorts of testing, etc. Off to track down a flashlight. :P Thanks!

I have the MultiSync LCD1700V monitor and it was on for about a half second then off. Tried the flashlight - No go. Turned on and off several times - No go. Then did something off the wall - pulled the power on the back and replaced it - BINGO it works. Analyzing this I found that I had problems inserting the power plug and must have dinged around with it several times then inserted it before it came on. Has been running for over a half hour with no outage. GOOD THINGS HAPPEN!

I had also same problem, i bring this to servise center they replace mother board, now it fine no prob. suggest u take it to nearest service center change mother boarard if u r system under warrenty.

Disable your hibernation. Fixed our problem.

Generally, when the monitor powers on, then goes blank very fast, it's usually a power supply problem. I have two LCD flat panels that had bad power supplies, both work great since I made a Mollux connector adapter for it. These are easily made from a Y connector, or any adapter that plugs onto the Mollux connector on your computer's power supply. However, since this takes 19 Volts DC, there may be a problem with line voltage, or amperage to power the monitor.
