Won't get hot, smells like gas

Most of these new fangled gas stove feature a silicone carbide ignitor to light the oven. Older stoves used a standing pilot light. As silicone carbide ignitor age a little they tend to get weak and fail to open the gas safety vave sufficiently enough for ignition. Take a look

Where is the pilotlight on a ge xl44 gas stove I belive it is in the door under the oven well I turned the gas on and stuck a flame down there and nothen took off is there a certian place to put the flame....

In general lets be clear. The OVEN pilot is located under the oven door at the top of the Broiler. It is a small piece of metal just before the GAS safety Valve which acts on temperature so gas won't flow unless Pilot is lit,That's the OVEN PILOT.The stove's RANGE is the top burners where you heat Pots and Pans.It has either 2 Pilot lights that connect the burners to the Flame they are under the Range Top.Newer Models use electronic ignitions no flame. Please note if you had your stove/oven disconected or Gas off when you turn it back on there will be air in the line that needs to escape before you light. This is why in NYC when Utility Co.works on steet main the MUST re-light your appliances.Be Careful with Gas.Good Luck.

Delay in oven burner to light after pilot is lit.

Usually delayed lighting on a standing pilot system is caused by a gas pathway that is dirty from spilled food or grease. If you can remove the burner assembly and clean it that will correct the problem. If there is a removable plate above it then you can remove that and get access instead of removing it. Pilot ignitions work by creating a column of gas between the pilot and the burner that is established when the burner is turned on kind of like a fuse. A small tube my be used to establish the column of gas between burner and pilot and it may get blocked with food that overflows. Sometimes the pilot is just located right next to the burner and may get partially blocked or the orifice in the burner next to the pilot may be blocked. Cleaning all this helps. Be very careful with gas. Work in a well ventilated area. Turn on gas very briefly to run an ignition test. Turn off the gas and vent it off if it fails to light in about 5 seconds. Unburned propane drops to the floor and collects. Natural gas rises. Be aware of this when you ventilate.

Gas stove

The JGRP17 (not a full model number) does not have a pilot light. It uses glow bar ignitors. Watch the burner at the top of your oven when you turn on broil. After a short time the glow bar ignitor begins to glow, and a short time after that the broiler burner should ignite. The same thing should happen with the oven burner under the floor of the oven when you attempt to bake. If the igniter does not glow, or glows and burner does not light, replace ignitor. (looks like part # WB2X9154)

Faulty bake or broil element

The solution to this problem depends on whether the oven is electric or gas. Electric oven. If your electric oven's bake or broil element isn't working properly, either it isn't receiving electric power or the element or the oven control may need to be replaced. In many cases, the wiring to the elements can be burnt or broken. 1) Be sure the controls are set on the proper setting. 2) Be sure the stove is plugged in and/or check the circuit breaker or fuse that serves that circuit. 3) Call an appliance repairperson or replace the element yourself as follows. 4) Unplug the oven and let any hot parts cool. 5) Unscrew the mounting screws that secure the element bracket to the oven and pull out the element far enough to access its terminals. Note which wires are attached to each of the terminals, then disconnect the wires (pull off the wire clips or unscrew the wires). 6) Take the element to a parts dealer, along with your oven's model and serial number, and buy a replacement (preferably the manufacturer's suggested replacement part). 7) Reverse the process to reinstall. Gas oven. When a gas oven doesn't get hot, it generally means that it isn't receiving gas, the gas valve isn't distributing gas to the oven burner, or the ignition system -- either an electronic ignition or pilot light -- isn't working properly. A common problem with ovens that have a pilot light is that the pilot light has gone out. NOTE: Gas ranges younger than 10 years old have a sophisticated fault code system that governs their ignition. Always call an approved warranty service provider to handle problems with these ranges. Here's how to troubleshoot your range: 1) Be sure the controls are set on the proper setting. 2) Be sure the stove is plugged in and/or check the circuit breaker or fuse that serves that circuit. 3) Check the gas valve to be sure the gas supply is turned on (also make sure the house's main gas valve is turned on). 4) On a stove with a pilot light, make sure the pilot light is burning. If it isn't, re-light as discussed HERE, or in your owner's manual. 5) Adjust the pilot flame (older stoves only). 6) Turn off the gas and unplug the stove (or turn off its circuit at the electrical panel). 7) Clean out the oven burner ports, using a stiff wire. 8) Plug in the stove (or turn on its circuit) and turn the gas back on. Re-light the pilot (if it has one). 9) If the oven still doesn't work, call an appliance repairperson.
