Machine is making a grinding noise before I even begin to sew or press the pedal, also doesn't feel smooth when sewing,
When was the last time you oiled it? Go to http://fixsewingmachine.com for instructions. Jimmy
Thankyou, but it's been resolved. It's my daughters machine and she realised (but not before the frustration hit quite a level!!) that the switch on the foot pedal had been knocked from high speed to low, but she was wondering what kind of oil she would need to use, when the time does come. I have no knowledge personally.
Thankyou

I'm sorry I don't know this model, but will try to help you.
Are the buttons still functioning - or is one deffinately seeming broken?
Try selecting other functions and see if there is any life at all.
If there is no life in it whatever, remove the fuse (test it) and replace.
If still nothing, There is an electrical fault either in the foot pedal, or motor.
These can be tested with a meter to determine the fault.
Repair of the motor or footpedal (dependent on tests) may be required - usually the motor.
Hope this helps - if so, rate as fixya!
If not, I'll try and Identify the fault.
Thank you for using Fixya!

Inside the foot control is a component called a supressor.......it is there to reduce or stop the "crackle" interference you may have on TV & Radio when using the machine.
It is not necessary for the functioning of the machine, but when it fails, or burns out, there is generally an acrid smell of burned plastic.....then it runs on by itself and you need to turn it off at the switch to stop it.
Best suggestion if you are not comfortable about opening electrical items, is to take it to a Janome service centre and tell them exactly what is wrong, as described above.. "a burned out suppressor, and the machine now runs by itself"
They ought to be able to do this for very little money really, it is a 2 minute job.......if it has been a while since the last service, you may wish to consider having it all done at the same time, depends on usage and budget in the end.
Let us all know how you get on.

i have the same problem, i got lent an old singer. i was in the middle of sewing when i took the foot off the pedal it went mad, i unpluged it and sorted all the thread out, now every time i plug it in the motor goes full blast without foot on pedal, it not any of the switched, and i opened the pedal up and everything looks as it should, but then i dont even know how to work the thing really, so any help would be brill! xx
SOURCE: I have a Kenmore sewing
Buy a new foot pedal for it, probably one of the electrical components inside the foot has failed.
There are Kenmore footcontrols for sale on www.sewingpartsonline.com. You could email them to check its right for your model if it isn't listed.
Obviously I'm assuming that you are in USA with 110 Voltage and that is what your machine is. If not and your country is 220V, you would need to source it from a reseller in your own country or another with the same voltage.
