Leapster turns on, screen is on but shows nothing on it. Looks as though my daughter spilled something like koolaid on it. The liquid got in the buttons but due to the rubber seal around the screen, it didn't penetrate any of that area. It doesn't look like it even made it to the circuit board. Checked the brightness and it ain't that. If anyone's got some info I'd love to hear it!

Hello,
there are three basic reasons why the leapster explorer won't bring out sound.
1. Defective speaker
The speaker of your leapster explorer maybe defective, this can make it not bring out any sound. Disassemble the leapster explorer, check the speaker part, test the speaker with a AA battery. If you hear any sound using the battery, then it means there is nothing wrong with the speaker.
2. Loose wire connection
Disassemble the leapster explorer, check the wires connecting the speaker to the board. Check for any wire cut, or loose connection which can cause the speaker not to bring out sound.
.
3. Sound IC/Card/Board
If non of the above is the cause of the problem, then it means the leapster explorer is having a defective sound ic/board/card. There is an IC on the board of the leapster explorer which is responsible for sound. If this ic has a shot, there won't be any sound. If this be the cause, I think it's high time to took the leapster explorer to a repairman because this requires skill.
I hope the above is clear. If not, please let me know for further assistance.
Regards.
You have to make sure that your Cartridges is clean. Try to vacum of blow both of the cartridge hole and also the place where you put the cartridge, Sometime very small tiny dirt will makes that the cartridge cannot be recognise by the console.
Instead of 1 starter game and a few demo game that you get from Leapfrog
Connect, you can also get more downloadable games for your Leapster 2.
You can get it here: leapster-2.blogspot.com
Have you tried putting new batteries? If yes and still has no sound then look for the warranty and bring it back to the store where you bought it so they can repair it for free.
are the batteries you are using the correct size/voltage for the leapster? I believe it takes 4 AA/LR6 size batteries at 1.5V each. has the product been dropped or bashed?
The leapster 2 screen is so dull you can hardly see the writing and programs. Very dark in colour. You can see colour arounf the edge of screen but the darkness overpowers the screen.
I'm really not sure at this point -- there aren't to many things you can do with a leapster to fix the display....how old is it? Wondering if Leapster will do anything for you if it's too old to exchange at a store. Typically screens turn white if they need to be refreshed OR if they have overheated or been left in a car or a hot place -- because the lcd gets messed up in extreme heat. Wished I could help you more then that...but calling leapster sounds like your only option right now..unless exchanging at the store is possible.
same as above, put new batteries in. nada
We have the same problem, sound works, but screen is dark.
I have the same problem...

Tried that. Is there a way to change out the light source?
