I just got the Breville ESP8XL on Woot.com and it makes great coffee, but everytime I use it there is a lake of water under the machine. It seems almost like there is a leak in the pump or something. Anyone seen this??? Know how to fix? Thanks!
Not exactly the same machine but same problem here. Where the coffee handle locks into the machine there is a seal up inside the machine's head section. Three or four screws hold the head onto the machine. The rubber seal in mine has a little tear on it. Came from factory that way I'm guessing. I think that is where the water is escaping. It's probably not creating the correct head pressure for the coffee either. I'm trying to find a seal myself.

Hi, I have the same problem with water leaking. I just got the machine 2 weeks ago, after unpacking it appeard that the 2 cup filter was "rusting" (stainless steel should not rust, so I am not sure what it is) called customer service and they replacd the part within days no problem.
So, this morning, I used it for the first time. Before the thing could heat up... half of the water tank volume had leaked out onto the counter. I called cust. service, but alas it is Saturday and the office is closed. I will try again on Tuesday (Mon is a holiday) and will let you all know what happens ;-).
I did look to see if there was a gasket or somehting missing, but it does nto look like it. Anyone else w/ this problem: cheap workmanship = cheap, malfunctioning machine. turn it upside down, unscrew the 4 screws w/ metal washers and the six screws with out washers from the base of the housing. once removed, you can see that cheap metal clamps are used around the plastic hoses which supply water from resevoir to steamer & brewhead via the pump. either length of hose above pump or below pump has come loose or pump is fauly or there is a hole in a tube. good luck!

The machine have a puss button used a reset for safety thermostat. If the machine went overheated for any reason then you have to push this button once all the way in and the machine will probably start heating again. If you try the above but you have not any heating then the heating elenet need to be replaced. Their is a very small posibility that the electrical wirring in a point to be oevrheated and lost contact so in this case you need to replace connector.
Does it leak around the pod holder, or after the holder is removed? It it is around then you need to replace the head gasket. If it is after then the solenoid or the valve seat is damaged.
Same thing happened to me and I had to push down on the water tank a little more firmly. It looked like it was seated okay but I guess it needed to be pushed down more to open the little spring-loaded opening at the bottom.
my experience with this machine is that this varies greatly with the type of beans you use. I would experiment with a few types of beans, roasts, and you might get lucky.
We had that happen and it was a crack in the black ring that holds the filter. Breville could not supply us with one but we found an OEM part in aluminum from http://www.vancouverwireedm.com/caferomadiyt.htm. We received it 1 week after ordering. It was pretty easy to replace. Our machine works fine now.
