Fault with its main board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ . In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
YES SIREEE, THE BULDGING CAPACITORS ARE MOST LIKELY YOUR PROBLEM. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THEM OUT??? IF YOU DO, I WOULD SUGGEST REPLACING THEM WITH NICHICON OR PANASONIC CAPACITORS.
1. Turn
off the PS3 so it only shows a red light. You can hold the power button
on the front until it goes into standby. To be sure, flick the power
switch on the back of the Play Station 3 off and then back on.
2.
Make sure your Play Station 3 is connected to your regular TV (not
HDTV) with the standard video cables.
3. Press and hold the power
button until the screen "flickers" and then immediately release. This
should reset the video settings.
4. Wait a few seconds, and the
Play Station 3 (PS3) logo should appear.
If this does not resolve
the problem, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the PS3 so it only
shows a red light. You can hold the power button on the front until it
goes into standby. To be sure, flick the power switch on the back of the
Play Station 3 off and then back on.
2. Make sure your Play
Station 3 is connected to your regular TV (not HDTV) with the standard
video cables.
3. Press and hold the power button on the front
until the Play Station 3 beeps and then turns off again. This should
reset the video for you and you can turn it back on after this.

Try resetting the video output. Follow the steps below:
Before changing cables, make sure the PLAYSTATION 3
is turned off using the main power switch on the back of the
PLAYSTATION 3 (the 0 side is pressed down).
Unplug the power cord of the PLAYSTATION 3 and television (or display) from the wall socket.
Make sure the AVI cable is connected to the [AVI OUT] port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system.
Connect the other end of the AVI cable into the [AVI Input] port of the TV or display monitor.
Plug the PLAYSTATION 3 and television (or display) back in to the wall socket.
Turn the main power switch on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 back on (the line on the power button is now pressed).
While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the
front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on
the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again .
(So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light
--> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down
the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
Turn ON the PLAYSTATION 3 and once the system finishes powering up,
the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard
resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your
TV/monitor).
With most projectors you have to press the power button twice to confirm that you want to turn it off. When you press it the first time it waits for a bit and then turns itself back on assuming you hit the power button on accident.
