It is not uncommon for a person to have more than one email account.
Most email service providers offer their customers a way to import email contacts and messages from other email accounts into the account maintained by the provider.

Some email service providers, such as Gmail and Yahoo Mail, have an email migration tool built in to their email interface.

Other providers, such as Comcast, direct their customers to use the TrueSwitch email migration tool.

Log in to your Gmail account.


Open the Gmail settings menu by clicking the pinwheel icon located in the top right corner of the window. Select "Mail setting."

Go to the "Accounts and Import" tab.
Click "Import mail and contacts."

Log in to your Yahoo mail account. Click "Contacts."
Open the "View" drop-down menu. Select "All Contacts."
Open the "Tools" drop-down menu. Select "Import."

Transfer Email to a Different Server

Each of the free-email providers has its own server on which to store the emails in its system. Gmail from Google, Hotmail from Microsoft, Yahoo! mail from Yahoo! and the rest all run their own servers, and one account from one server cannot go into another from a different server.

So if you've switched from Yahoo! to Gmail and want to get all the emails stored in the Yahoo! server over to the Google server, you have to transfer that email data.

Luckily, since the services are free, transferring the email is also free.
Log into your email account in the server that you are looking to transfer to.

So if you are transferring from Yahoo! to Gmail, log into your Gmail account.
Click on the "Settings" or "Option" button for your email address and then click the "Accounts" or "Accounts and Imports" button to look at the accounts.


Click on the "Import from another account" or "Add account" buttons and then type in the log-in information for the account that you want to transfer the emails from.
In the example given, you are transferring from Yahoo! to Gmail so you will need to type in your Yahoo! log-in information.

Wait for the server to transfer all of the contacts and email from the old server (Yahoo!) to the new server (Gmail).

Nearly everyone has multiple email accounts for different purposes, and occasionally you may need to transmit information from one account to another.

Gmail makes it easy to import data from other Internet email providers via the TrueSwitch email migration service.

You can use TrueSwitch to migrate all of your Yahoo email data without even leaving the Gmail program window.

Navigate to the Gmail website and log in to your Gmail account.

Automated Transfer Method
1) Open your gmail account. Go to Settings.
2) Click on the "Accounts and Import" Tab. Enter the passwords for your Yahoo! mail account.
3) Select the import options you want to use. You can decide to import all your contacts, and old mail, or some portion of thereof.
4) Note that only messages currently in your INBOX will be imported, and they will be automatically labelled with the name of your yahoo account. If you have other folders in your yahoo account that you want imported, you'll need to rotate those messages into your yahoo INBOX.

Manual Contact Transfer Method
1) Export your contacts from Yahoo mail: Go to >> Contacts >> Import/Export
2) Select Yahoo CSV from the drop down menu.
3) Save the file to your Desktop.
4) Log into Gmail.
5) Click on "Contacts" in the left hand sidebars.
6) Select "Import Contacts" from the options.
7) In "Browse" select the file on your Desktop. It will import all your contacts.

If you want to abandon your Yahoo account, go to "Mail Options" in Yahoo. Select "Vacation Response." Write a short note to announce to correspondents to send all emails to your new Gmail address, which you specify. This email will be sent to whoever emails you on your Yahoo. So you may want to obfiscate your email ID: ie. your_address(AT)provider.com instead of [email protected] If you want, you can also send a quick email from Gmail to your Contact Book addresses informing them of your change.

Your country/language setting - what Yahoo! Mail calls your "Preferred Content" - can be adjusted by following these steps:

1. Click on your user name which is located at the top of your Yahoo! Mail page, next to the Yahoo! Mail logo. This will open a pull-down menu.
2. Click Edit My Account.
3. This will open a new window in which you will be prompted to re-enter your password. You will then be re-directed to your Yahoo! ID Card.
4. Under "Member Information" in your Yahoo! ID Card, click the Edit link. This will take you to "Member Details."
5. Click on the link next to Preferred Content and from there you can select from a list that best meets your content needs.
6. Click Finished.

1. Click Options in the upper-right corner of your Mail page,then MAIL OPTIONS...you will be in the GENERAL mode...then click on CONTACTS.(left side of the screen)..once in click on TRANSFER CONTACTS TO YAHOO...
2. You will be prompted to re-enter your password as a security measure.
3. Next is a permissions page which goes over legal information. Click I Agree. If you'd rather not continue, click I Do Not Agree.
4. Verify that you've read the Terms of Service by clicking in the check-box. Click Start Transfer.
5. Enter the "old" email sign-in name for the account you're transferring from, and in the pull-down menu, select the webmail domain it's from.

* Click Next to transfer the information to your new Yahoo! account.

Use Active sync. It will ask you to select items to be synchronized. Select Addresses. The contact will be transfered to the Address Book in your system used for Outlook.

Open this email on the i-phone and push the attachement - it then asked you if you want to add these, click (push?) yes, and select eithr merge or new and voila you got them.
