It is the 4-pin connector that comes out from the power supply unit. There are mainly two types of hard drive power connector, i.e. SATA and IDE. Sorry that i am unable the pictures b'cause i'm on fixya mobile, please follow this link to see the pictures google.com/m/search?client=ms-opera-mini

How to connect your hard drive to your motherboard

The first thing you have to figure out is what type of hard drive you have, a PATA or a SATA drive.

PATA = Parallel ATA
This type of drive uses the older IDE connections. Most of your current motherboards still have aleast one IDE connection to support the ROM drives on the market that have not moved over to SATA connections but you can still connect a hard drive to this connection if needed. The thing to keep in mind is that you can only connect 2 IDE devices to one IDE connection on the motherboard.

Here is an example of an IDE cable. If you can see there are tabs on the cable to make sure you line up the pins properly.

SATA = Serial Advanced Technology Attachment
This type is now the standard that most hard drives are. Also note that alot of your ROM drives are switching over to this format as well.

Here is an example of a SATA cable.

In regards to power connectors If you are using a PATA drive then you will use the Molex power connector. Note some of the early SATA drives use this power connector as well.

For the SATA drives you would use the SATA power connector. Note if your power supply does not have this connection you can get an adapter that goes from a Molex connection to the SATA connector.

Next you will need to find the connectors for the hard drive on your motherboard. Below if pictures of the 2 connection types.

I am having several sata hdd what i noticed is the third connector on the drive 1data 2 power and3?

most SATA hard drives have both the molex and SATA power connectors to work with every PSU (power supply unit). There's a good chance that your third connector is the Molex one, don't worry about it.

How do i install a wdeads hard drive? where is the power supply (4pin Molex)?

I'LL TELL YOU UPFRONT i HAVE ONLY INSTALLED SATA ON A NEW SYSTEM SO MY ANSWER MAY NOT BE CORRECT IN ALL SITUATIONS
Question is vague. Are you replacing a drive or building a new system? SATA drives have a dedicated plug on the Mother Board. Of course you already know you can't replace an IDE with a SATA without an adapter (Ebay has them for about $8) or the Bios is incompatible. The power is on the Motherboard and does not have a connector from the power supply like an IDE has.

My imation USB Hard Drive once i connect to USB port power LED is working but its not working

Sounds like it's not getting enough power from the USB port on the laptop. Drives like this usually have a 2nd USB connector for more power from a 2nd port. If you don't have a free port, you can buy a powered hub and use that for the drive. It has its own power adaptor so will provide enough power for the drive when both drive connectors are plugged in.

How does the ide cable connect to the hard drive i don't see any pins for the master, i see pins for the slave I see what looks like tabs where the pins should be, do these need to be removed or is there...

The IDE cable has a connector that has a plastic notch in the middle of the connector and this matches the recess on the IDE connector socket on the hard drive. If it doesn't have a notch on the connector on the IDE cable then the connector needs to be plugged into the hard drive with the red stripe on the cable adjacent to the power connector.
The MASTER (MA), SLAVE (SL), and CS jumper settings are usually located bwtween the IDE and power connectors. The jumper connects only two pins across the rows of pins. If the hard drive is the main boot drive it is jumpered as MASTER on to be connected to the IDE cable on the first IDE controller. If the hard drive is connected on the first IDE controller as the second drive then it is jumpered as the SLAVE.
If the hard drive is connected to the second IDE controller then it can be jumpered as MASTER if nothing else in on the same IDE cable.

I recently purchased an external hard drive, and how do connect it to my computer.

External Hard Drive is mostly of the USB interfacing type. If urs one is the same, then it is just as simple as plugging in a pen drive in the USB port. If it has external power supplies then u can easily figure out how to connect. There are two parts in the power supply (if external power supply cable is provided), 3-pin main power supply connector and other is the adapter which goes to the external hard drive.plug in the other end of the adapter into the hard drive (there is a hole in it). connect the main power cable to the adapter extension. now for the usb Hard Drive, connect the USB cable to the USB port of the computer. Switch on the power supply to the Hard drive and u r ready to use ur brand new External Hard Drive. If it is a Firewire interfacing one then u may need to open the CPU box, and then connect the firewire connector on to the motherboard firewire port. It is easy to identify, it is a red colored port/connector.

Installing new harddrive

So you want to Install a new Hard Drive?

Im assuming your New Hard drive is a SATA connector. Reply if it isn't.

Open up your computer case and look for the current hard drive. place the new hard drive in a free spot and screw it in. then plug in the SATA power cable and then the SATA interface cable and the other end on the motherboard by locating a free socket usually orange (Gigabyte Motherboard).

If you do not have a SATA power connector, you can get a Molex to SATA converter or you should buy a new power supply that has SATA power connectors.
