SOURCE: XR 7 locked up

Just read on another forum where the film rewind button can get stuck (little button on the bottom of the camera, used to initiate rewind), and removing the camera bottom allows access to unjam it.  I'll try... takes a small philips eyeglass screwdriver and young eyes (or my reading glasses...)

stevdan,

take the screws off the bottom cover. there is a small lever pointing toward the front of camera with a black screw on it. gently move it to the left, this will release the lock lever. Now advance the lever and the shutter should fire. if not, it is not repairable. no parts

SOURCE: mirror is stuck in "up" position and film will not advance

Normally, stuck mirror is due to weak batteries with a elcetromagnetic shutter like the Ricoh. Try with brand new silver oxides and see if it helps!

If you have Ricoh lenses that do not have electrical contacts, you can use the lenses on Pentax digital SLR cameras.

If the batterys are ok ,try rotating the speed control to X and the mirror will unlock from its upper position and the film will advance next time you try. Also the camera will not operate unless the leaver is moved away from its rest position, ie level with the camera body to its first movement area.

Shutter Curtain Doesnt Reset Mirror

If your shutter curtain doesnt close, it may be out of Sync with the shutter button. My Minolta x700 had this problem. My camera guy fixed it for me with a couple of tinker moves. Contact your nearest camera repair shop (if available) and ask how much it would be to fix the Sync between depressing the shutter button and the curtain. it may just be some grime that has it stuck.

I was loading film into my Nikon EM for the first time and it wouldn't work so I had to take it out, then I pressed the shutter and it closed and it didn't open back up so I played around with the shutter...

You can't touch the shutter curtain at all on any film camera and the cost of repairing that curtains far exceeds the cost/value of the camera. Sorry for the bad news but the only thing worth anything on the camera now is the lens.

I have a jammed shutter on my Minolta 400si SLR. It also has caught shutter curtains. I noticed this the moment I received it from an ebay seller. The shutter won't open beyond 1/4th of the way. No...

With the shutter curtain out of place the camera will not function. If it is only out a little you may be able to persuade the shutter blades to fall back into position. If you bend them, or if they are out of the proper tracks then the camera will have to be sent to a repair service for repair.

Shutter Curtain needs to be replaced.
There are 2 of them. Usually one goes out of position and brakes.

The flash pictures are only half exposed, like drag on shutter

Sounds like the shutter needs repair. Either the opening curtain is sticking or the closing curtain is not holding long enough. Another problem might be the camera's sync speed might be lower than 1/125 of a second. Many cameras use 1/60th or 1/90th of a second as their flash sync speed.

Shutter Release button

Did you try changing the aperture? Depending on the lighting in the area, you may want to change this accordingly, if you put it in AUTO, and you're in a dark room the shutter might not open immediately.

Picture nearly all black

Lets see if the shutter curtains are opening properly : set to B and open the film back of the camera. Now release shutter and see if the first s. curtain has opened nicely and swiftly. Then release the second s. curtain and again see if you get proper closing of the curtain. If the shutter curtains ( usually just one misbehaves ) is slow to close then the shutter unit needs looking at . ( btw no point pouring liquids like benzine etc. into the shutter curtain are ... will make things worse ).
