I don't know what flat screen tv you have, but you must be aware of the coaxial input behind the TV.It could be analog input, digital input and OUTPUT!!
Anyway,if you connect your basic directv box to your digital input,it will not serve you any purpose to get HD channels and you don't have the HD directv box.The TV will not display digital channel for you because if you use coaxial input to TV,you should be under either channel 3 or 4 and be sure either channel had been saved under memory. In order to change channels, you will need to change it from your directv box.
JUST LIKE a VCR connect to TV.TV will be under channel 3 or 4,and you will change your channels from the VCR.Don't forget to scan all the channels from the VCR!

I have a Model D12-100 flat-screen TV, hooked up to DirecTV. I have lost my TV remote and have lost the signal for DirecTV. How do I get the signal to the HDM1 or HDM2 category without the TV remote?

First off, D12-100 is your direct TV Box, Not your TV. A D-12 -100 direct tv box is not an HD box and will only connect to your tv via a coaxial cable or av jacks (red, white, yellow).
If you have lost your remote for your tv and your direct tv remote does not operate it, then you should be able to find the manual buttons on your television somewhere along the edge of the screen.
Toggle inputs till your on "TV" then use the channel selection to toggle it up or down till it's on channel 3 or 4 for Direct tv, If that doesn't work toggle inputs again and try the AV inputs. And of course if you want to use another device toggle inputs to HDMI 1 or 2.

I just acquired a Toshiba 32HL95 TV and cannot get any hd channels although I have a digital cable box. I have tried using the coaxial, hdmi and video connections to no avail.

Try configuring your antenna input. Menu, Installation, Terrestrial, Input Config select your antenna 1 or 2 and > arrow over to select cable. Next auto program: under Terrestrial, Channel Program...this take some time.

I can't figure out how to program cable box. The cable is hooked up to the TV, but I can't find out how to get channels. Is there a certain menu or imput?

Are you getting any picture at all? check your tv's input button on the remote if your cable box is hooked up with hdmi select hdmi, if it is component video cable select component video, and if it uses a coaxial cable it should be something along the lines of tv. Push the input button on the remote to switch between the different modes

I just had directv hooked up, I have a dvr receiver, I was told I did not have enough hook ups on the back of my tv, so therefore, I went and bought a switch or combiner. Now, how do I need to run the...

Newer directv hd receivers must connect to the av input (yellow, red, white) connections on the back/front/side of your tv. If your tv only has one of these av inputs then you will need an RF modulator for your dvd player. You will connect the (yellow, red, white) connections from the dvd player to the rf modulator and then connect the tv out on the rf modulator to the tv rf jack ( the silver threaded barrel on the back of the tv) Tune your tv to channel 3 to watch a dvd and then back to the av input channel for the directv receiver.

Is this TV HD capable?

This is not an HDTV. However, that does not mean you cannot use it to view the HD channels with DirecTV, you just wont be able to view them in hi-def. Use the component inputs from the directv tuner and plug those into the proper component inputs of your JVC. Once you see the DirecTV picture on the screen, go into menu... setup (with the directTV remote) and make sure that the only resolution checked is 480i. DirecTV with 'downconvert' those cannels to standard def, and they will still look pretty good though the component connection...

... now, in answer to your next question: "What exactly do I need to view HDTV with DirecTV?"...

1. A television that will accept 720p or 1080i signals.
2. A DirecTV HD Tuner.
3. Any DirecTV service BUT you must purchase the HD pack so that they will 'unlock' the HD channels
4. The proper cables to hook in between your DirecTV HD receiver and your HD-capable TV/Monitor. You may use either HDMI or component video cables, so long as your TV will accept them. Tune your TV input accordingly. When using component video cables, you must also run a separate cable(s) for audio...

Take care,
Rob

ps. DirecTV HD tuners do not have an RF 'out'. ("coaxial or ch3/4 connection")

Cannot return to TV from DVD play

Hello,

If you have a Directv receiver, and you have to be on channel 3 on the TV to watch it, then we have to get you off the video input. On a Directv remote, there should be a button toward the top left hand side that says "TV input." Try pressing this first. If that doesn't work, then look for the button on the Insignia TV remote control that says "tv/video," "source," "input," or something along those lines. Press it (some TV's make you press it several times to change the input). Just make sure that your Directv receiver is on before you start pushing buttons.

Give that a shot.

Not able to scan stations

I don't understand why you would bother to scan channel when you have directv or dishnetwork???
directv or Dishnetwork required their units in order to watch any channel, which means:
A. Depending on your TV setting,if you use RF connection from your basic directv to the tv,you would have to leave the TV on Ch.3 or Ch.4.to view the rest of the channels, you have to change it from the directv or dishnetwork box. You are NOT able to scan the rest of the channels from the TV,bottom line!!
If you have comcast or your local cable provider, once you have activated, you could use the RF signal coming out from the wall plate straight to the tv and go to TV auto programming,it will auto scan the available channels for you.
Don't waste your time on directv.
If you are thinking about recording from your BASIC directv or dishnetwork box, you would connect SAT. signal from the wall plate to the directv box, then use composite video/audio output and connect straight to your VCR/DVD player under composite video/audio input. Now you could record the viewing channel to the VHS.
Good luck!
