Where to find a belt for gilson model #51182

Apparently Toro bought the company, but I unfortunately didn't locate a correct belt using Google, but there may be a similar size one.

One Fixya user took the belt to a local shop and found a substitute that would work.

Some sites showed diagrams of tillers and how to replace.

The site below mentioned on FIXYA requires a part number to order.

Need belt diagram for Gilson Brothers tiller model 51179

Go on the internet to the products's web site and enter your product. type and model # and you should have no trouble finding it. It will probably be mixed with 5 or 6 others but you shouldn't have any trouble finding it, I would almost bet you have had it on a couple of times and it went on easy and was wrong, Remember if it goes on easy it is more than likely wrong, You've got to pinch and mash some fingers and say some word that you will need to ask forgiveness for, If it goes like this then it is probably right, lol!

Need to see belt route for gilson bros. tiller

You did not state if it was a front or rear tine tiller. This is for the front tine tiller:
http://photos.cubfest.com/albums/userpics/10231/Belt_Routing.jpg
The rear belt has a 1/2 twist in it for reverse. The front belt goes on nomally.

If this does not help you I would like a model number if you can locate it so I can get your the proper routing diagram.

Broken belt

The web site below sells Gilson belts - you need the part number. If you do not have the part number, maybe if you contact them, they can match the belt to your tiller number.

http://www.psep.biz/store/gilson_tiller_belts.htm

Also, another web store, Jacks small Engines (jackssmallengines.com) states that they carry parts for Gilson, but I did not find Gilson in their directory. You may have to contact them.
One of the web sites mentioned that at some point Gilson was bought by Lawn Boy. If you go to a local Lawn Boy dealer, they may be able to match up a belt.
I have a 1978 WheelHorse tractor. The drive belt for the mowing deck broke. I went to Home Depot, spend a good 1/2 hour measuring belts, and found one that works perfectly. If you go to your local outdoor equipment shop, especially one that sells, repairs tillers, they may be able to match up a belt for you. A belt is a belt is a belt. If you go to a "good old fashioned shop" that will spend the time, they can measure the old belt and hopefully come up with a match.
Good Luck!
