Whirlpool gas dryer will not heat up?

The heating element is no good. They break after years of use as they heat up and cool down over and over, they wear out. The part is cheap and yes it is easy to replace. Turn your dryer around, and take off the screws to a short piece of metal that has "vents" in it. It should be sticking out a bit compared to the rest of the dryer back. normally 2 or 4 screws holding it there. You'll see the element. Just pull it out, take it to the appliance shop or Sears and get another element. Go home, stick it back in there and reconnect the panel you took off. Cheap part, simple fix...you'll be surprised how well it heats after that.

It sounds like your solenoid coil(s) might be no good. Easy fix and not very expensive.

The problem is the dryer coils are failing. They tend to fail as they heat up. There is a video at http://appliancehelponline.com/gdryertroublevideo.html this will walk you thru checking them. They are inexpensive and easy to replace.

Your heating element is out. Cheap part. Easy to replace. Unplug from power source. Remove the back cover. You will see the wires going to it. Just disconnect the wires and get one from sears parts department.

A dryer heater is controlled by the timer, a thermostat and a high-heat safety switch. The thermostat and safety switch are mounted on the housing around the heater.
Most likely - If the heater is blown, a visual inspection inside the heater housing will see a loose heater wire.
Next likely - Thermostat problems occur. I replace the thermostat and high-heat safety if either are suspect. Cheap, easy fix.
Least likely - Controller failure. This can be expensive ($80 - $400) so consider if you want to spend the money. A controller is actually fairly easy to change. Buy a new knob as you are likely to break it without experience and special tools.

First cleaning out the vent inside and also your hose vent. If its old, replace it with new one. Cheap and easy so far. Second could be a bad gas valve or solenoid coils. Valve should be replace by a licensed repair person. Could be pricey. If its the solenoid coils it's a cheaper easy self fix.

OK, there are two likely scenarios, depending on whether your dryer is electric or gas. If it is an electric dryer, an open heater element is the most likely cause (change left in pockets is notorious for blowing out heating elements).

If your dryer is gas, the most likely cause is an open ignitor. Whirlpool, GE, and several other makes use a resistor type of ignitor which will burn open with time. It's an easy fix, easy to get to and readily available at most appliance parts stores.

If it is a gas dryer. Sounds like thermal fuse. It costs about $12.95. Most appliance part stores carry it all the time. Very easy to replace. Also can be ignition switch (also cheap). If you know someone who is mechancally inclined, after removing fuse,they can run an electrical jumper cord to the two open ends. If the dryer begins drying, then it is definitely the fuse.
Go to Whirpool site and get part number and diagram to fix. Maytag repair can help at a costly figure after they order part since Whirpool bought Maytag.

ive got same problem and engineer told me to buy a thermostat kit cheap and easy to do yourself.loads of sites sell these but i cant find one that matches to my model number.you might have more luck.
