Why would you want the mess with the drive letters? You stand the chance of getting things all mixed up as far as the computer is concerned. Why not put the DvD setting on the back of the DvD drive to Cable Select (CS) that lets the computer assign the drive letter automatically.

Try updating the drivers for the dvd player.

Go to Start
Click in box and type Device Manager
Click on Device Manager in the list
Click on Disk Drives
RIGHT click on your dvd player drive
Click on update drivers
Click on Search automatically for updated driver software

My dvd rom not showing in nero programme

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device click start control panel administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver roll back driver or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall Click start control panel administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options update driver roll back driver or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer Close all open programs Click Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Dvd drive noisy put in dvd go to my computer driver is showing but wont play driver ejects

1. Try a different cd or dvd to see if it's reading any dics
2. Boot computer and try again

3. Uninstall the dvd drive from your computer (windows xp machine) , Right-click "My Computer-icon" -> Manage -> Device Manager -> DVD/CD-rom Drives -> right-click and select uninstall Restart the computer and it should install the drive again automatically Try reading the discs again
5. Update driver if available, see manufacturers website for driver updates
6. Try the dvd drive in another pc (if possible)
7. Propably faulty drive, replace the drive with a new one

try reinstall it with old driver, first uninstall the updated driver, then install it again with old driver.

Why my DVD ram can only read CD-R and not any other media

update the driver file for it....right click the drive, click properties, it will give you a description of it...go to the tab that has the driver file description and click update driver...let it go online...it will get the correct generic driver for your dvd-ram drive.

you might have to update your dvd driver. Go to my computer and then properties,then disk manager. Look for the DVD driver and then update it...You might also update your windows..Hope this helps...
