Can't get rusted screws out of the plastic head cover from a toro recycler mower. Badly rusted that a socket won't grab hold to turn.

The screws that hold the top plastic cover down are badly rusted and can't get anything to turn them to unscrew them. The screws are down in a well like area where usually a socket with an extender can get to them. I heard of a drill bit like tool might do the trick but don't know what you call the drill bit that reverses a problem screw that.

SOURCE: toro super recycler mower will not stay

Try replacing the fuel and spark plug. Gas may be bad. Get some fresh from the station not from the can sitting in the garage.
Drain the fuel system and put the fresh gas in.

SOURCE: starter rope broke how do i replace it

You have to remove the whole engine air shroud over the flywheel to gain access to the recoil and rope mechanism. If you need specific help on your exact model engine I need all of engine model type numbers 5 to 6 char then 4 char then 2 char i.e XXXXXX-YYYY-ZZ for B & S Honda numbers are by the engine oil port on the base of the crank case. Thanks for using FixYa, Kelly

SOURCE: my toro recycler lawn mower is seeping oil on the

It is best to take the machine to a good repair shop like www.arcolawn.com and have a "leakdown test performed." This will prevent you from spending money and time in replacing gaskets that are going to go bad again because the piston rings are bad. If the machine passes a leakdown test then it is worth pulling the engine and installing a new sump gasket. under 20 bolts and you can do it yourself.

www.arcolawn.com has the parts diagrams if you type in your model

I have a 2010, 22" Toro Recycler which has broken

I would take it back to where you bought it and demand they fix it under warranty and show you the proper way to stop it. Sounds like it was improperly set-up.

I just bought a used toro Recycler 2 gts 5600 We think the blades need sharpened but not sure because the gear is stuck somewhere between neutral and 1 and will not budge. It starts up fine and stays...

Try removing the screws that hold the cover on the self-propelled drive on the top deck. Then actuate the cable and see if there is kinking, binding, and not broken.. See if the springs and levers are free and move on the gearbox. There may even be a little black plug on top of the gearbox you can remove to add lube to the gear drive. Mobil 1 gear lube works well there. Spray WD-40 in the problem areas around the gear drive. If binding is real bad, use penetrating oil instead of WD like Liquid Wrench (cuts rust) or PB Blaster. As far as the blade goes, tilt the mower and check it. You can easily tell if it is sharp or dull; it's most likely dull. With some TMC (Thoughtful Mower Care), you may be able to get it up and running AND cutting.

Toro 6.5hp 22" Recycler model#20072 Self-prpel

John, adjusting the cable would have been my first suggestion as well, there are two screws accesible from under the deck to get the black cover off (one of them is in a corner and may be hard to see). Once you get the cover off you may be able to see if you may have a tension problem, belt problem, etc. Goodluck!

How to remove plastic front wheel drive cover on Toro Recycler

On my Toro recycler, I also had the front drive stop working -- and fixed it after reading the solutions here.

First, the plastic cover on the top deck that goes over the front drive mechanism must be loosened enough to pull it up. Before you can do that, on the underside there is one screw to take out.

Once that's done, all you have to do is pry the plastic cover up enough to see the belt and pulley that make up the front drive assembly. On mine, the belt had simply come off the pulley. Putting the belt back on, then tightening things back up is all it took to put the Toro back in sel-propelled happiness. Good luck!
