Problem: Laptop will not charge any batteries, but is able to use charge from batteries and read charge level from battery chip. Cannot flash BIOS (InsydeH2O) with new version because one does not exist. OS Win 7 Ultimate. AC power adapter will power PC with no battery present. What I have done to troubleshoot problem: With my laptop: 1) Used new battery in laptop. Will not charge. Will read battery chip. 2) Used same model battery from different laptop in current laptop. Will not charge. Will read battery chip. 3) Re-installed operating system, updated Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery drivers. Battery will not charge. Will read battery chip. 4) Tried a new AC Power adapter. Will power laptop. Will not charge battery. Will read battery chip. With a different U550: 1) All batteries charge in the alternate U550. All battery chips can be read. 2) Old AC power adapter will charge and power alternate U550. I have come to the conclusion that the internal DC converter for the battery is shot. I need a second opinion based on the details above.

try draining the battery first.in order to do this. batery should be taken out the laptop. power adapter is unplugged. press and hold the power button then counte 1 to 10 then release your finger after 10 secs. then press in again then count. do that for 3 times. plugged everything back in and monitor the status afterwards

sound like you may have a bad battery charge board but let us pray that it is a separate baord that plugs into the mother board

If the docking station charging doesn't work either and your battery is ok you have lost voltage regulator (it prevents overcharging of battery) Take the battery to a battery plus store and they can check it..

if the charger power up your laptop, that means that the charger is working fine, what you need to do is just replaced the battery

A sudden drop from 50% to 7% means that the battery is faulty, it is simply a case where it is not holding any charge. I would suggest you contact the seller and check if the battery is under warranty. Hope this helps and good luck.Any question please feel free to ask.
