Our Z5 had a blocked coffee nozzle this morning, with coffee leaking out of the back of the unit. Tried to unblock it and then run a cleaning cycle. Held down the rotary dial, filter came up, turned to go to the maintenance menu. Went through all the other menu options, but 'maintenance' is missing. What am I doing wrong?

SOURCE: Z5 back is not latching-- needs to be removed-- but how?
You first need to remove the Jura crest by turning it clock wise. I use a piece of ruber pressed against it to help.
Then you will need a special screwdriver for the oval shaped screw heads.
I ordered the screwdriver from germany; www.juraprofi.de.
The cover can then easily be removed by sliding upward.

It could be several soutions to this problem. First of all, try to clean the sieve in the brew unit, it may be clogged. Take out the tray, in between the 2 brown "lips" inside you can put your finger up and clean out all the old coffeegrounds stuck up there. Then put everything back in place and run a Rinse machine operation.
If this is not helping, listen out when you start up the machine; You should hear that the valve is turning 3 times, if it doesn`t it can be a problem with this valve not opening in right position. Then all the water would go out in the tray, and not into the brew unit. That maybe can be solved by changing this Multi ceramic valve or the Main Electronic board. Then it`s a job for a sertified Jura technician.

If the machine says TRAY MISSING it's the contacts at the back so clean as other people have stated, you can also use a cardboard nail file to clean the contacts at the back if there really skanky!.
If the machine keeps saying EMPTY GROUNDS even though you have, pull out the tray, look just inside the aparture where the tray goes top right at the front there is a small slot where if you look closely you can see a small white micro switch. This will be probably gunged up with coffee and the switch will be stuck up, get a can of WD40 and squirt a small amount up into the switch then poke the switch with a small screwdriver up and down until it moves smoothly.
Then replace all the bits, sit down, look smug and have a coffee cos you've fixed it!! :0)

Someone online sells a special screwdriver head used to open the Z5. With it, it's possible to take the machine apart, clean up the coffee ground dust that gums up the moving parts. You can giggle sensor switches that get stuck. The water lines will need decalcifying eventually, even if you use the the Clearyl water filter cartridges. If you're not up to taking machines apart, sell me your broken Z5: [email protected]

Thanks for your suggestions. I finally got it working again. The missing 'maintenance' mode is a bug in the software. Jura support said that it is a known problem. The fix is to:
- press the rotary dial to go into function mode
- turn the dial until you hit language
- change the language to Spanish & confirm
- turn dial to another function & then turn back to language
- set it back to English & confirm
- turn dial back thru the functions and 'maintenance' should be there again
It worked for me. I used a couple of tiny little brushes (used for cleaning teeth) to clean out the nozzles first. Then ran two full cleaning cycles using the tablets. Lots of little chunks came out. To be safe, I also ran a couple of rinse cycles and more bits came out. I figure they got softened up by the cleaning cycles. Kept at it until it ran clear.
Machine is running fine again. :-)
Thank you, this worked like a charm!
Thanks so much. After calling Jura twice, all they could do was tell me to unplug the machine for 2 hours. That did NOT work..
