Whirlpool microwave model GT4175SPB-2: sounds like it is running properly but is not heating up

From all indications the microwave seems to be programmed and set correctly with factory default settings. Although it sounds as though it is running as usual; it will not heat anything no matter what time duration. The manual referred to the "magnetron" and asked if it is working properly; it gives no more infomation on the magnetron than to ask the question and if it is not working properly to call for service. Is there some trouble shooting that I can do to determine it isn't simply some option setting or a reset that could be done?

No! by all indicators it is the magnetron and a tricky replacement. The cost to repair should be measured against a new one.

SOURCE: Does not heat.

As opposed to guessing and suggesting that you replace a bunch of parts until it finally works, my approach is to rely on experience and troubleshooting skills to find any bad parts and only replace them.

Since the turntable, inside light, and cooling fan work, I would suspect a bad connection at the magnetron's "FA" terminal or a bad magnetron itself.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At
our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we also have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it is NOT shorted or burned looking, it's probably fine)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
(continuity can be good even though mag is bad!)

Even though it passes these tests, it may still be bad.

Let us know how it goes.

SOURCE: Microwave will run but will not heat?

**CAUTION**
HIGH VOLTAGE IS PRESENT IN CAPACITORS. THIS COULD SERIOUSLY INJURE YOU. DO NOT ATTEMPT IF YOU ARE INEXPERIENCED! IT IS CHEAPER TO BUY A NEW MICROWAVE THAN PAY FOR AN EMERGENCY ROOM VISIT.

The magnetron probably needs to be replaced. You can test it with these instructions.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold Microwave Model GH7155XHS

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

SOURCE: I have a Sunbeam Microwave Oven SMW777 -

In all likelihood the mangnetron has failed, or perhaps even the Power Supply. You need to have it serviced by a reputable service centre/man.
Ensure you get a firm "Quote" before proceeding, and remember these days the cost of repair can equal or exceed the price of a new one.

Own Whirlpool microwave model MH7100XY, everything works on it, however it does not heat anything, heard a small pop and after that it does not warm or cook anything?????

The pop sound is an indicator the magnetron is gone that heats the food. It is cheaper to replace the microwave oven than have it repaired.

Suggest you pull the plug out, remove outer cover and place a cup of water into the micro. Set power to minimum then switch on and take note if the fan works or not. If not, switch off immediately and have it replaced(magnatron will burn out if left to run without fan.)

Whirlpool model number MH7140XFB no longer heats

you either need a new h.v. capacitor or h.v. diode in the magnetron circuitry if you cant hear it cycle when it runs as in a low pitched hummmm when its drawing current to operate the magnetron tube, each part runs about $30 to $45 each, normally its the h.v. capacitor though

Unit operates does not heat anything

A defective diode or magnetron can cause the oven to sound differently and not to cook.
