Top thread tangled in bobbin.

I have cleaned, oiled and replaced everything on my machine. Every time I start sewing the top thread becomes tagled in the bobbin. When I sew the top thread on the fabric is taught and the bottom had large loops then gets tangled. I end up with a ton of threads coming up from the bobbin. I have used 2 different thread colors and it is the top thread that is getting tangled. I don't know what else I can do to fix it!

Try changing the needle---flat side goes to the back side of the machine
also check the top tension
depending on the fabric your sewing on--the needle & thread have to work
with the fabric--example light fabric needs a different needle & thread than
a heavy fabric
check to see if the thread is coming off the thread take up lever when you
sew.

SOURCE: Singer 301a...sews on top of fabric

This is a tension adjustment problem. It's good to use two different colors of thread, like you did. From your description, the top thread (needle thread) tension needs to be tighter. As you tighten the tension of the top thread, you'll see that the top thread pulls the bobbin thread up into the fabric so it's no longer laying loose on the bottom of the fabric.

You'll need to have the pressure foot down when you tighten the tension. Tighten it a little, sew a practice seam, check to see what the stitch looks like. Tighten it a little more, sew, check, etc etc--until both top and bottom look the same--you shouldn't see much (if any) of the bobbin thread color on top of the fabric or the top thread color on the underside.

Let me know how this works for you, ok?

Bobbin thread tangled

Try these suggestions and see if they help
1. Change the needle--use a needle that's for the fabric being sewed
2. Rethread the machine--top --make sure to use every thread guide
3. try a different bobbin--make sure bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case, & make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way in the bobbin case
4. make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
5. Clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or threads
6. Check to make sure the bobbin is not warped or damaged
7. Make sure the bobbin case is correctly in the machine,, if it's a top loading bobbin you may need to have the bobbin case checked to see if it's damaged or see if the hook and hook race has a problem
8. Also could be a timing problem, and the machine would need to be checked.

Sewing machine

The top thread is probably breaking due to the bobbin thread tangling.
First-off fit a new needle .... do that anyway ! And if you haven't recently cleaned your machine (and you should do it every week as a minimum), clean-out under the stitch plate, remove the hook, clean the hook race and give it a small drop of oil, even if you're using the lightweight plastic hook/shuttle. Check that you have adequate bobbin tension ... when you pull the thread out of the bobbin case there should be a bit of resistance --- technically, this should be set-up using the correct tool and a set of weights, but if there is no, or very little resistance, you need to increase the bobbin tension a little bit at a time using the small screw that holds the tension spring down onto the bobbin case. This is a very fine adjustment, so you may find you only need to turn the screw less than a quarter turn to get it right. Ensure that, when you thread the top thread up, you do-so with the foot lifted so that the thread goes down properly between the top tension discs. If you're still not getting anywhere, check the basic timing/needle depth by looking at some of my other posts on the subject.

Trying to use and bobbin keeps tangling up with loads of thread

Oil the bobbin holder. Wipe small amount of oil on outside diameter of bobbin holder. Replace.

Also try using better quality thread. Some thread is not consistent in diameter or has lots of small fibers - it will not got through the eye of the needle easily and will become tangled.

Bobbin tangles up thread and jams machine

Hi, Is it your bobbin thread or the top thread wrapping around the bobbin. I just got a used PE150. The top thread keeps wrapping around the bobbin. It is not picking up the bobbin thread. Did you find a solution for your problem?
