Netgear DHCP issue

On an ATT/Netgear 7550 ADSL2+ router, I cannot get an ip address via DHCP on my IPad2. I just replaced this router and had a Linksys before that worked fine. Both my IPad2 and wireless printer do not receive ip addresses from the router. Is MAC Filtering enabled by default on this router?

It sounds like it's not configured to be a DHCP server. It should be a setting you can turn on. Login to the router. You may need to manually set your computer's IP to be in the same subnet as the router so that you can do so. The default address for the Netgear 7550 would be http://192.168.254.254, so you'll have to set your computer's IP to something like 192.168.254.253, and then browse to the above address. Username and password are both "admin". If that IP doesn't work, try setting your computer's IP to 192.168.1.2, and browse to http://192.168.1.1, then look for a "DHCP Server" setting in the Local Area Network section, and make sure it's checked.

SOURCE: Router doesn't obtain WAN IP address (DHCP)

you can hook the router up and go into the settings by when it is hooked up to your computer, type in http://192.168.0.1 and the password is usually user or admin. the password is usually password, unless it was changed. you may be able to change settings to fix this problem through that GUI

You should enter the "Wireless MAC Address" of the XBOX and not just the "MAC Address". You can see it on the system info of the XBOX settings.

SOURCE: MAC ADDRESS FILTERING MAY BE ENABLED ON MY WIRELESS ROUTER?

should be an option in the console (in browser go to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, etc)

MAC Filtering just means that you can set up a set of MAC addresses (Machine Address) of units you want to be able to access your network. If you didnt set the MAC of a unit it will not be able to join the network. So mac filtering is a way to limit connection with your network.

2. Access the Router (usually "http://192.168.1.1";
or "www.routerlogin.net" or "www.routerlogin.com").
3. LOGIN TO THE ROUTER (User Name = 'admin', Password = 'password';
unless you have changed it).

and then click on advanced wireless settings...

Click on setup access list..
Uncheck "TURN ACCESS CONTROL ON"

This is the process to disable MAC filtering..

I am using my netgear N300 router for wireless access only. But it is slow if multiple devices are using it?

The bandwith is shared between devices, making them slower. DHCP provides an IP and is dynamic, making it easy to add devices, A static IP means you have to assign and keep track of the IP's. Most people use DHCP.

DHCP SERVER in Router and DHCP server in Wireless Conflicting - Set WI Fi DHCP router leases to say 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.100 and default gateway as 192.168.0.1 and on the router set the router's ip address to 192.168.0.1 make the Wi Fi router address 192,168.0.2 . Set in the router the DHCP address leases to 192.168.0.101 - 192.168.0.254 and default gateway 192.168.0.1 or deactivate one of the dhcp servers and rely on one dhcp server like the routers and then deactivate the wi fi's dhcp server.

I am trying to install a Netgear router after my switch. I end up having no internet on some of the computers connected to the hub and none on the router. If I configure the router as a dhcp client...

You'll want to configure your router as a dhcp server. Connect the switch to your router's lan port. Connect the remaining devices to a port on the switch. Your wireless access point should have it's dhcp server disabled. You can only have one dhcp server per network. The wireless can get it's address from the router's dhcp and the wireless client devices will get their ip address from the router, as well. If your wireless access point is a router with a wan/broadband port and some switch ports you will want to make sure that you are connecting to your Asus switch via one of the switch ports.
Be sure that your client devices are configured to get their ip address via dhcp and you should be surfing the interweb in no time flat.

Netgear SmartWizard Help

Is there an option to use a dynamically assigned IP address (also called DHCP)?

That's most likely the option you need, almost all home Internet providers use DHCP to assign the information you are asking for automatically to your Internet connected device (in this case, your router).

Let me know what options are available to you if neither Automatic or DHCP is.

Thanks!

RE: My posted. Connecting DSL/Router to DIR-628 internet router

Installing a router to work as the second one on a home networkrequires special configuration. Do the following on the second routerto ensure it (and the devices attached) function properly:1. Connect as local device or bridge - If connecting the second router via Ethernet cable, plug it into one of the LAN ports on the first router. If connecting the second router wirelessly, ensure the second router is set for client mode.Note that some home wireless routers do not support client mode; thesemust be connected by cable. Check your router documentation for detailson its client mode configuration support.

2. Check / change IP address - Most home network routers use a default IP addresssetting. Often, these default IP addresses will not work in a tworouter environment. Check the second router's IP address value andreset it if necessary to work within the valid address range of thefirst router (and to not conflict with any other device on the network).

3. Disable DHCP- To avoid IP address conflicts between all of the devices on the homenetwork, only one of your two routers should assign addresses via DHCP. All mainstream routers provide an option to disable DHCP as part of the router's configuration screens.

(My netgear router supports client mode. The 2wire supports bridged and router mode. My 2wire is the main router. I set up my netgear using my laptop. Once you change the address on the router.. You will only be able to directly access through the main router to the 2701.)

Configure your 2701 IP address to a static address in the 192.168.2.1 range and diable DHCP. Only 1 router can run the DHCP service. To disable Dhcp on the 2701.... log on to 2701> click on home network>advanced settings>uncheck enable DHCP>Next section is Public routed subinterface...Check enable and Aout Firewall Open>Input your main router address and mask>save config..

This worked with the Netgear router.. May not with your router. Good Luck! Hope this helps!

How do I set a new address in the 850 motorola router

First, you ned to login into your router (check the manuals for this, Netgear has this printed behind the router near Serial no. etc).
Enable DHCP settings, allocate IP-address range say 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.5 (enough for 5 computers connecting via this router). Next, configure each computer to accept new IP-address from router by enabling DHCP.
The settings on a Windows XP Professional Desktop:
Need administrator access to your desktop, right-click on Network icon, Internet Protocol TCP/IP Properties, click on Properties button, then select Advanced properties, you can set DHCP from here.

Net gear router again,

You would do this through the setup of the router. With your computer physically attached, allow the machine to get an IP address via DHCP. This will give you the IP address of the router because by default, it's the default gateway...

So, you drop to a command prompt (start, run, cmd and press Enter)
Type ipconfig and press enter
This will get you your IP address, subnet mask and the default gateway
The default gateway is what you want for this part...

Open up Internet Explorer and type http://192.168.1.1 (replace it with the IP address you found for default gateway)
You will need the password to get in here...

Once in, you can then poke around the settings and turn off DHCP as well as set many other settings.

Save them and allow the router to restart.

You are back in business.

Two wire att router

Try rebooting the router. Then make sure that all the lights on the front of the router are green. You can also call ATT and ask them to ping your router to make sure that it is connected to the internet.
