Reparing Samsung PS-50 C430 Plasma TV

Good day.
If you can identify those shorted transistors and you can remove them, you can actually order them from Samsung through this links http://electronicsmarket.com.au. It has everything Samsung, you will not be disappointed. Click on the link, click on Plasma TV's, then click on PS50C430, then (again) click on the version you may have and a list of possible parts will appear for this model. I didn't go through the long list (5 pages), but I believe what you're looking for is there. If not, you can contact them Website and ask not only for the transistors but you can actually get further help with your query.
Hope it helps. Cheers

How do I fix my Plasma TV ?

Not sure it is a transistor. May be bad caps in fisrs or secondary power supply. contact mfg of transitors to see if yours is transferable.

Plasma comes on but picture is bad looks like shinny bits on peoples faces did

Sounds like Your Y SUS and Y upper Y Lower boards are on their way out. Unplug the TV completely for a few hours then remove the back panel look for the Y Sustain board It will be printed on the board next to the Boards Rev number (part number). it it's usually (open back view) In the Middle towards the left side and the Y upper.Lower are the 2 boards on the left hand side. The PSB power supply board is in the middle and next to the PSB on the Right is the X-main. shop jimmy partsstore and ebay for refurbed boards. Or you can pull the boards by removing wire harness ribbon cables and a few screws and take it for a bench test at an electronics/pc repair shop. It's usually not the entire board but a faulty component on them. Mainly the transistors.

TELLY KEEPS TURNING OFF

Hi Martina,

This is an indication of out-of-regulation in the power supply section. The very common caused of this fault is the leaky electrolytic capacitor in that section. It will drop the supply from normal voltage and will disable the unit. Sometimes it has a bulged/dome at the top but not all, it is better that you have a capacitor checker/tester to determine its condition. Also, bad solder joints can produce the same symptom, it is hard to spot, you should use table lamp/portable lamp for finding the cold solder. Secondary reason of fault is the open fuse/fusible resistor in series with the output of regulator IC/transistor, shorted/openRegulator IC/transistor, shorted zener diode(all are in the power supply section) and the microcontroller. Best that you check the output voltage of each regulator to determine where the fault came from and narrow the job.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments, and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Don't attempt to work in the power supply if you don't know the safety precaution of handling it, there some stored electricity enough to hurt you with a little mistake only.

You may replaced the power supply board for your convenience. Try the availability of your board online like ebay.com and shopjimmy.com.

Also check if your unit is under warranty /extended warranty, avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free. Don't open the back panel, this will void the warranty.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

Tv wont turn on just chirps

The power supply in these sets will chirp if there is a short on the secondary side. I would start with the horizontal output transistor. It is really hard to say because everything in the set is run off of this power supply. It would be best to have a technician check this out for you. Thanks for using fixya.

Won't turn on. makes whiney noise. fuse ok

The set has a shorted horizontal output transistor and possibly a bad high voltage transformer. The transistor can be checked with a DVM but the transformer has to have its impedance checked with a "ringer". Also solder all stages in the drive circuit of the horizontal transistor. The power supply is making the noises because of the short on the secondary side. Thanks for using fixya.

Blawn AC fuse

Almost every modern set will just go into power supply shutdown if the horizontal output transistor is bad or other problems place a heavy load on the secondary side of the supply. Usually that results in a ticking or whistling from the set, but it won't blow the main fuse. A blown fuse typically means shorted parts in the primary side of the power supply.

The switching supplies used in today's sets can be a real pain. Check for a shorted input bridge rectifier or shorted switching transistors. There are also optical isolators used to provide control feedback and they can go bad, causing the supply to run away and blow up parts. A service manual or at least schematic diagram is very helpful. You might be able to find one online. I've checked my files and I don't have anything for the chassis used in this set.

When tv turned screen is blank and chirping sound comes from back

A chirping sound usually means that one of the secondary supplies has shorted, most likely the horizontal output transistor. The power supply "chirps", which is the sound it makes when it protects itself from drawing too much current. The set should be serviced by someone with experience in Philips projection TV'.
