My microwave was first replaced the first one the door suddenly would not open and the service rep was not able to open it either. They replaced it with a new one (but later I discovered by the manufactured date it was over a year old) and after a year and 9 months, suddenly door opens and closes, light comes on, turntable works but it will not heat. What is wrong and is their any change this is covered under warranty? I emailed Whirlpool but they advised this model is no longer available, but it is available on several other home applicance sites on the internet. HELP

Just had the same experience with the identical model. Removed the cover (a challenge because of the security screws), revealing valuable troubleshooting directions intended for an experienced technician. However, I think the info is well within the reach of a typical DIY person, does not require any dangerous power-on conditions. However, make sure that you discharge the HV capacitor before trouble shooting. In my case, it appears that the HV diode is open, have ordered a replacement on the internet for $3.18, easy to replace. Hope it works. Good luck.

Many thanks to e3enigma above! I removed the synch motor under the turntable; all other microwave functions work fine and the grinding noise is gone, hooray! A trip to the appliance parts store tomorrow for a replacement synchronous motor and all should be well. Thanks again!

Is very unlikely that there could be any other electrical failure since everything else seems to be working.
If you are able to fix it yourself then is way more cheaper just to buy the magnetron.
Click here to find the magnetron.
Before you do any work on this device, please click here to know how to discharge the high voltage capacitor and other safety concerns when working with devices that generate high voltages.
I would say is not worth it to spend more then $100.00 for a 5+ years old microwave.
Good Luck.
