If your Kenmore dryer has stopped producing heat, chances are the problem lies with the dryer's thermal fuse. A fire-prevention safety device, the thermal fuse is designed to disrupt the flow of electricity to the dryer's heating mechanisms if the dryer temperature reaches a predetermined maximum. Once activated, the thermal fuse must be replaced to restore the heat to your dryer. In Kenmore brand residential dryers, the thermal fuse will be located in one of two places.

Instructions

Front Panel Access
1 Unplug your Kenmore dryer from its power source. Make sure that the appliance is unplugged before proceeding.
2 Use a flathead screwdriver or putty knife to remove the dryer's bottom service panel, sometimes called the toe panel. Slide the screwdriver or putty knife along the top of the toe panel until you've located the toe panel clips. The clips are usually located about four inches in from either side of the service panel. Push down on the toe clips with the screwdriver or putty knife to release. Remove the panel and set it aside.

3 Locate the thermal fuse on your Kenmore dryer. Look for the thermal fuse directly above the dryer's motor; it looks like a white strip with two wires, and is usually mounted off to one side. See Resources for a diagram of thermal components.
Rear Access
4 Disconnect the Kenmore dryer from its power source while locating the thermal fuse.
5 Move the dryer away from the wall so that you can access the back of the appliance.
6 Use a screwdriver to remove the dryer's back panel. Set the panel and loose screws aside until you are ready to replace them.
7 Locate your Kenmore dryer's thermal fuse just above the exhaust port. The thermal fuse looks like a white strip with two connected wires.

Tips & Warnings

Clogged exhaust ports are a common cause of thermal fuse failure. While you've got your Kenmore dryer in pieces, clean out the exhaust ducts to keep it functioning at its best.

Take all proper safety precautions when working with electrical appliances. Make sure that your Kenmore dryer is unplugged before attempting to service it.

Thankfully, troubleshooting the thermal fuse in a Maytag dryer is easier than it sounds.

Instructions And Things You'll Needed.
  • Screwdriver,Towel,Electrical tape,Replacement thermal fuse, if necessary.
1 Clean out thelint screen in your Maytag clothes dryer. Lint buildup can cause your dryerto overheat, triggering the thermal fuse to disrupt power to your dryer'sheating mechanisms. Remove the screws that secure the thermal fuse to the dryer anddiscard the blown fuse. Attach the replacement thermal fuse by replacing andtightening the screws. Attach the wires to the new thermal fuse.

Cabrio electic dryer has power but will not run
There is a thermal fuse wired in series with the motor and if it is blown, power to the motor is cut and cannot. No dryer function works when the motor cannot run. The thermal fuse usually blows due to a failed exhaust thermistor. Check for clogged lint filter and/or restricted vent system then replace both the thermal fuse and the thermistor if the thermal fuse is found blown open. This is a DIY repair which only requires very minimal effort with a screwdriver.

Disconnect power then remove the back panel and locate the thermal fuse and the thermal fuse on the blower housing.

    Hello there
    Unplug your dryer from its electrical outlet. make sure that all electricity has been disconnected from your dryer before moving on

    turn off the gas valve that supplies gas to your dryer. Remove the gas flex line at the shut-off valve using an adjustable wrench.


    Remove your dryer's back panel. take out the screws on the back of the dryer and the panel will come free. set the panel and screws aside until you are ready to replace them.


    locate the thermal fuse between the dryer's blower housing and exhaust. the thermal fuse looks like a white plastic strip with two connected wires.


    unplug the wires connected to the thermal fuse.


    remove the screw that secures the thermal fuse to your dryer. set the screw aside and discard the broken thermal fuse.


    replace the thermal fuse screw to attach the new replacement thermal fuse to your dryer.


    reconnect the wires to the thermal fuse.

These setup makes the dryer fail to start and the heating element not to turn on if the thermal fuse is blown. The dryer seems to no work at all. Verify the condition of the thermal fuse by bypassing it and starting the dryer.

    Disconnect power then access and bypass the thermal fuse on the blower housing. The blower housing is located on the rear left bottom of the dryer cabinet. Remove the rear panel to access the blower housing and so the thermal fuse.

    Removing a part form a Whirlpool Electric Dryer
    The thermal fuse is located on the outside of the blower housing. To get access to the thermal fuse you will need to remove the back panel of your Whirlpool dryer.

    How do you check it:     Before you do any repairs on your dryer, you will need to disconnect the dryer from the wall outlet.


    After removing the back panel, remove one wire from the Whirlpool dryer thermal fuse and take a reading between the two terminal on the thermal fuse.
    The reading should be 0 ohms, if the reading is infinity, the thermal fuse is bad and it must be replace. When you find a bad thermal fuse, you will need to replace the operating thermostat too.

    The operating thermostat opens at 155 degrees and the thermal fuse blows at 196.

    These means that operating thermostat did not open at 155 and that is why the thermal fuse failed.

    You will need to replace the thermal fuse, thermal fuses are there to protect the dryer. When you have the dryer apart clean all the venting and vacuum out the dryer. Look online for a parts supplier in your area, you will need your model and serial number to order the thermal fuse they are about ten dollars.

    how long is the venting, does it exceed 20 feet, how many elbows. Make sure the outside hood is clean
