Washing Machine Door won't open

I can't get the door on my washing machine to open. It has completed a full cycle correctly and has stopped - but the door is sealed tight and will not open - leaving all my washed clothes inside. How do I get the door open? Thanks

same thing, same situation. tried all of the solutions in the owner's manual and online, but nothing worked. Then pressed the door INWARDS and voila, it would suddenly open.

I had the same problem. I went through all the steps on this thread to no avail. Finaly I just pryed the thing open - with no damage, thank goodness.

Once open I saw that the latch in the door didn't move when I pulled the handle. The problem it seems was in the latch on the door itself. If you end up this problem and want to get wet clothes out, just stick a flat-head screwdriver, behind the door latch into the horseshoe-shaped metal bit and lever it open - no prying necessary.

Not sure how I'm going to fix this permantely but at least I got my wet clothes out and can do laundry as long as I keep the screwdriver near by.

To fix - I'll either need to figure out how to disassemble the door and replace the latch mechanism, or just buy a whole new door.

Fluffy, hopefully its just a glitch. Try this to put in the test mode. Put the program selector knob at the 6:00 position. Put the speed spin selector knob at the 9:00 position. Press and hold the pre-wash button and then press the power button. The 5 leds should light up. This will test the door lock switch. Hopefully it will unlock and reset. If not it's best to call for service as some complicated tests will have to be run. Catriver..post back

follow the steps in the above PDF file to remove the top, then on the top right side, you can find 2 white wires, unplug either one of them (pull out hard), then you should be able to open it. God damn it, I spent whole morning on it!, I hate Whirlpool!

Door won't open and is jammed.

We have an electronic Sears front load model with which that happened. . If this is a Sears machine contact the service number located in your manual and they should be able to talk you through it. For us it ended up being a door switch that had become misaligned. Make sure the machine spins the water out of the tub before you try to open the door if it is a front loader.

A mold smell from my washing machine

IMPORTANT: Read thoroughly. DO NOT add detergent or other laundry products to this cycle.
1. Remove all items from the washer.
2. Open the dispenser drawer and 2/3 cup (160 mL) of liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment. DO NOT use more than 2/3 cup (160mL) of bleach per cycle as this will lead to product damage.
3. Close the washer door and dispenser drawer.
4. Select the Clean Washer cycle or a full wash cotton 104 F wash (40 C). DO NOT use any higher temperature as this will cause unnecessary fumes
5. Press Start and allow cycle to complete.
6. If the bad odour persists, repeat the procedure 1 or 2 more times. This may be necessary if this is the first time you have run this cycle.
7. After the cycle is complete, leave the door open slightly to allow ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
8. Repeat the cleaning procedure monthly.
To maintain the washer freshness:
1. Use only HE High Efficiency detergent.
2. Leave the door open after each cycle to for better ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
3. Use warm / hot water in your machine unless the fabric you are washing requires cold.
4. Use the correct amount of fabric softener.
5. If your laundry room is damp, use a dehumidifier.
6. Clean the door seal of visible residue.

Washing Machine Door won't open

Washing machine stops in middle of spin cycle, have to pull control knob out over and over to complete cycle.

If the machine restarts immediately, vibration may be disabling the door closed switch. This switch is designed to stop the machine when the door opens, and if it becomes misaligned any large vibrations may cause it to sense that the door is open. This will not happen usually under the relatively mild vibrations from the wash cycle. Try running it while holding the door down. It can be adjusted but the top usually must be removed to do so.
