Taking care of my machine

Even though you're sure of threading the machine and bobbin correctly, the best and first option is to unthread both and rethread both. Also take out the bobbin and examine it carefully for packed lint or dirt, damage, and apply a drop of oil onto the bobbin shuttle.

You should probably talk with your Janome dealer.

NO grease!!! Best option is to pick up sewing machine oil sold by Elna--make sure it is the oil recommended for your model. For a computerized machine, apply only as directed in the owner's manual. Computerized machines usually take a clear, thin oil whereas mechanical machines usually take a thicker, lemon-colored oil. To keep your machine purring, AVOID old or inexpensive sewing machine oil. If it is an older mechanical machine, a drop or two can be applied every place where metal rubs against metal--do NOT oil nylon gears, belts, etc.

Caveat! Oil only if your machine is mechanical. If it is computerized, follow the care instructions in the manual. The squealing could be a belt, May be best to take it for service if it continues.

Since it is a computerized machine, you will want to be very careful with oiling as oil can damage the computer components. It may be best to take it for maintenance.

If it's an old mechanical machine, it has probably seized from old, dried oil that acts like glue on the moving parts. Get some liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube and, while manually moving the handwheel, apply a couple drops every place that metal rubs metal. Do NOT oil belts, rubber, or synthetic parts. Then apply hot air from a handheld hairdryer into the internal mechanics. You may need to repeat the process several times before it moves freely.

You should read the machine's manual to double check.
Or you could check the machine's manufacture on-line.
Oiling a non-oiled machine can cause all kinds of problems.

Please be careful as some modern machines will be damaged by oiling inside. Check your manual for oiling points and olny do those stated.

This has the self winding bobbin. You need to be careful when oiling. Take the top, left side, and bottom off the machine. Do not oil the gears. They need clear, synthetic grease only. Place one drop of oil where ever metal rubs together. Only use sewing machine oil. NEVER use 3-in-1 oil, or anything else. It turns to a sticky residue, and will freeze your machine. Note, these models have a plastic gear on the lower main shaft that loves to shred. They're great machines, but I would take it to the repair shop, have the gear replaced; the old lubricants removed; and check the bobbin winding mechanism. You may end up spending $150, but will end up with a great machine.

Its a good make although I believe even they are made in china or somewhere, but sewing machines need a careful touch to run properly. If its under warranty take it to a dealer. If its not, take it to a specialist. Who may be the dealer. Best bet for long life and smooth running.
