When spreading seed, the setting is not important. Adjust it high and go for a light dusting of VISABLE seed on the preped soil. Then rake in lightly. You can never put too much seed down unlike fertilizer. Good luck, and keep it wet for 30 days for best results!

At the bottom of the spreader hopper is a gate, there should be a setting lock that allows the opening to move only so far. This may be at the handle controls but unlikely.
To be sure of your spreader pattern and rate, use the spreader on a parking lot to see the pattern, you can always sweep up the granules and reuse them! Walking speed is the biggest factor in spreading rates.... Opening is the next....
