I was unable to locate a manual for your phone online, but can offer some suggestions to solve your problem.
Most cordless phones beep in battery low, out of range, and other situations. Since it is also displaying the "Searching" message, it indicates that it lost its link with the base due to being brought too far from it or the battery power has fallen to low to permit use as far as it may have worked before.
The quick fix is to simply place the phone into the base / charger. This re-establishes a security link between the cordless handset and your telephone line. This is a safeguard that is used to prevent others with the same cordless phone from merely getting "near your base / charger" and gaining access to your dial tone to place calls on your phone line.
If the battery is low, it should left to remain on the base / charger long enough to fully charge the battery. If the battery fails to charge, there may be an issue with the base / charger; but it is much more likely to be a problem with a battery that has reached the end of its useful life (batteries seldom last more than a couple of years and may not last a single year depending on usage). Either condition will require replacement of the faulty device before using again.
If you need more help, you may want to try Thompson Electronics (if purchased prior to 2011) at 800-448-0329 or their website; as it appears GE contracts with them for support after the warranty period.
Good luck!

I have had the same problem before and now again for the last week...I finally remembered what I did last time to solve it!
I put my "unavailable" Handset into the main cradle and left it there for a slow count of 20. That has reset the unavailable handset and returned the dial tone etc.
Maddening isnt' it!

what does it mean what your phone is out of range
SOURCE: 2 beeps, no dial tone

SOURCE: no dial tone beeps with fuzz disconnect battery to work
You may need to replace the battery, or let unit charge 12-18 hours without it being plugged into telephone jack-proper recharging method. You should have done this right away when it first came home.

That isn't a whole lot to work with. Get a working phone and take the cord out of the base of the GE and plug it into the working phone.
If the working phone gets a dial tone, look into the modular receptical on the GE base and see if the contact wires aren't out of place.
If you don't get a dial tone on the working phone, try changing the connection cord between the phone and the wall. Also look for the same problem in the wall receptical as discribed above for the GE base.
Hi there!
For you to send a fax with the Brother Fax you can try these steps:
1. First make sure that you have a dial tone by lifting the
handset or just by pressing the hook/speakerphone button. Once you have
verified you have a dial tone press the hook button again to return to the main
screen or hang up the handset. LCD should display the date & time
If you don't have a dial tone make sure that
the telephone line cord is connected on the fax machine's Line jack. If you
don't have a dial tone still, connect it to another working outlet. If you
don't have a dial tone still, connect a working telephone on the wall jack to
see if you'll get a dial tone. If you get a dial tone on the regular phone then
problem is either with the line cord or the fax machine.
2. Once you have the date & time on the LCD screen, Load the
document that you want to send on the automatic document feeder which is
directly above the LCD screen.
3. The LCD screen should change from the date/time to "Enter
Fax No. & Press Start" Once you got this screen dial the fax number
and then press Start.
Hope this helps. Rate if it works.
Thanks!
