SOURCE: Sidekick 3 does not receive charge
All right. The Sidekick 3 has a known charging issue that crops up on some phones. If you are under warranty, call t-mobile and get it fixed. If not, the repair is going to run 100+ to fix the charging port.
A fast and simple solution is to by an external charger and an extra battery. They run about 30 bucks total on ebay.
Check out Sidekick Battery Chargers.
Be glad the battery is easily removable. The original sidekick and sidekick II had internal batteries that are a pain in the butt to remove!!!

Stevey-
The sidekick ID charging port can go bad like the sidekick 3's. An easy workaround is to get an external cradle that has a spare battery charging slot.
The trick is that the sidekick 3 and sidekick ID batteries are the same so the sidekick ID battery can be charged by the external cradle. An extra battery is a good idea as well so you can have ine charging at all times.

This is a workaround that bypasses the problem. It does not outright fix the charger port, but it DOES charge your battery. 1) The known way. Buy a Sidekick 3 cradle charger. This allows you to dock your SK3 . I've never bought one, but it has an area to put an extra SK battery. You take your battery out of the non charging SK3 and put it in the external charging holder and it charges it up. Of course, you have to use a good battery. This costs like $25 and up. They are often found on ebay.
2)The second method is cheaper still, but takes some more time. Go to Ebay. Type in "universal cell phone charger". You will see dozens if not hundreds of these pop up. They are a generic charger from China. They have many variations but they all look pretty much the same . They are rounded, attach to an ac outlet and have small electrode probe clamps which are placed on the battery contacts externally.
They can charge digital camera and pda batteries as well as cell phones. They can be somewhat quirky to figure out because they might not come with instructions. I had mine for a little while before I finally figured it out completely. The best versions of this universal charger have instructions written on it, at least on the sale ad. It does work. Can be kind of slow. I did an overnight charge on my SK3 battery and it's only 4/5 full. But they are so dirt cheap. Under $4 each, that you could buy two, an extra SK battery ($5 on ebay) and still come out ahead of the cradle. Plus it can be used on ANY cell phone battery, not just the SK3. If you have two batteries and chargers going on all the time, it compensates for the somewhat slower charge rate of this charger. In all fairness, SK3 has one of the largest and highest Mah (1500) of any standard cell phone battery I've ever seen. Good luck whichever you choose.
