It only freezes up on one game "NBA live 09". I bought the game 2 weeks ago and it worked fine up until this morning. I exchanged the game and it is still doing it. It DOES NOT do it to any other games.
I played the game for around 2-3 weeks and then it started freezing during gameplay only usually at different times in the game. I also exchanged the game with a new live 09 to see if it was just that disc. I had the same problem. I can get through a 2 min Quarter game usually just fine. The longer games however freeze around 1st and 2nd Quarter. the game freezes after i hit start when tony parker shows up in the beginning. it freezes every time. and i cant play at all because i cant get past the start menu. it wont freeze when i am not signed into a profile. but as soon as i sign in it freezes. i have not been able to play in three days because it has not worked one time.

ok , if it is giving u the open tay error , every time u try and load it , it could be a number of reasons behind it , i had the same problom , most games will play but i had 1 game that no matter how many new copys of the game i got , when i put it in my xbox the game spun 3 times and then said , open tray , like trhere was no game in the xbox, so i went 2 you tube and typed in open tray error xbox 360 and there r loads of examples on how 2 fix it , if u keep opening and closing the tray each time after it says open tray after about 6 to 7 times , it should play , but i would go 2 you tube , becase u need 2 open your disc drive 2 fix the problom.
I had the same problem with my Xbox, and the answer wasn't good. This is a hardware issue cause by the video coolor not working and the game overheating, making the video freeze totally.
Call 1-800-4MYXBOX, and have your console serial number ready. They might be able to walk you through some basic troubleshooting, but this will most likely end in you needing to send the system in for a repair.
It may freeze because your game Cd could be scratched or bad. Or maybe its not your game CD at all maybe it is your console. What you can try doing is rubbing alcohol on the game CD and see if that works. If not, try blowing into the area where you put the CD into.
some games have some problems like far cry 2 some discs wont allow you to play past 66% its just a flut i am sorry u will have to play a new game and hope it wont happen again.
Try playing your game without Xbox live at first. If it doesn't freeze up, then you have an internet connection problem. Try reconnecting wires. If it does freeze up without Xbox live, it may just be the game.
This is usually because some games are on DVD media and
some are on CD media. CD's are single layer media while DVD's are multi
layer media. This means it is easier to read a CD than it is to read a
DVD. The concept of a DVD is to have several semi transparent layers of
data. It is sort of like taking a few CD's stacking them together and
smooshing them into a single disc. To read the 2-4 layers of data you must
ignore the previous layers and pay attention to ones deeper in the disc. DVD drive might be going out 360 dvd drives do go out more then they should.
Shutting off the Xbox corrupted the Hard Drive... Have you ever got a Live System Update? You can also reset your Xbox without shutting it off using the controller. You probably have the Three Red Rings of Death... Go to this...
