Kenmore freezer gets cold and freezes but then completely dethaws itself

I have a Kenmore upright freezer I purchased 2 years ago It's getting cold, and will freeze, but then you go back the next day and it's all dethawed again, I mean completely, and barely cold in the freezer. A few days later it'll start freeezing again. It appears to me the auto defrost is causing the problem but I don't understand why it then mysteriously fixes itself and starts freezing again??????/ I have some kool-aid pops in it that I leave in there to see when it's freezing and not (since they won't make a mess and won't go bad) and it's just going back and forth. Anyone have any suggestions?

SOURCE: Freezer is freezing but the outer wall are extremly hot

This is a normal condition.  The condensor coils are in the cabinet and their job is to remove heat which is why it is hot.  You will want to make sure the freezer isn't in a tight spot where air from the room can't flow across it.  Without good air flow it will become too hot and not cool properly and lead to the compressor failing too soon.

SOURCE: problem with upright freezer not freezing

It sounds like the unit is low on freon or the compressor is going bad. You have several other components that could be affecting this as well. Make sure the coils are free from dust and clean underneath. This is a bit premature for you to have problems now, especially since it is a Sears product.

SOURCE: Used Kenmore freezer won't get cold enough

If it is running but not cooling enough the problem is in the sealed system.

If you started it up just after hauling it home it may have be moved around enough to get oil in the systems smaller tubing causing problems. Unplug the unit for 24 hours and let it sit. Try it again for 24 hours and see if it cools.

If not this means either there is a refrigerant (freon) leak in the system or a restriction causing the refrigerant to not flow properly.

Either one are an expensive repair. and will require a professional to look at.

Kenmore upright freezer. The alarm keeps going off?

The light may be staying on and creating heat, or the unit thinks the door is still open.

Or the door seal is worn and is letting cold out.

Or

It needs gas.

Have you put a thermometer inside to check the temperature? It should be 0'F +/- 2'.

My Kenmore Freezer, 5649215011, won't get cold

Yes it is. You probably have a bad capacitor since it probably as been outside for this long. It is subject to aging even when not in use. This should be an inexpensive job.

Only one half of my chest type freezer freezes? It is old. Bought at least 18 years ago. Help!

My recommendation is to get rid of this 18 year old freezer as it is costing u a fortune to keep it plugged in. Then ask yourself if you really need an additional freezer at all?? If you do, consider purchasing a new small one that is really energy efficient. You will be way money ahead I assure u.

FREEZER ALARM WILL NOT SHUT OFF

You can try 2 things. Unplug it for about 2-3 minutes and then replug it. It should reset itself. You can silence the alarm or muffle it. Silencing it should be hard. Disconnect it from its source. You may want to find out why it is alarming constantly. Have you called Sears and asked them?
